Job summary

Wheeler Clinic Intervention Specialist role provides evidence-based, curriculum-based services to adults in the criminal justice system. You’ll use motivational interviewing and CBT to support completion and reduce recidivism, reporting outcomes to court/probation/parole.

Full-time schedule with two evening shifts until 8pm. Wheeler Clinic offers comprehensive benefits, including medical/dental/vision, life/AD&D, 403(b), education reimbursement, training, and PTO with EAP.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree required. Approved exceptions may be made for demonstrated ability and/or exceptional performance within Wheeler Clinic program.

  • Proven ability to work on a team to meet program goals, effective verbal and written communication, personal and program growth.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, plans, and facilitates individual and group sessions per curriculum with fidelity.
  • Engages clients using motivational interviewing to support behavior change.
  • Conducts client intakes, assessments, and ISPs within established timeframes; provides case management.
  • Monitors client behaviors and uses behavior management systems; holds clients accountable.
  • Participates in QA activities (videotaping, trainings, data analysis) and maintains timely documentation.
  • Provides program coverage as needed (evening shifts) and supports cross-team collaboration.
  • Supervises tox testing with gender-specific collection as required.
  • Continues to develop knowledge of diverse client groups and cultural understanding.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Intervention Specialist facilitates evidence-based and research informed curriculum-based group and individual services to adults involved in the criminal justice system. Utilizes motivational interviewing and other strengths-based techniques to support program completion, increase client success and reduce recidivism. Reports client outcomes to court/probation/parole. Significant training and quality assurance offered.

Rate: $25.72

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

BA/BS degree required. Approved exceptions may be made for demonstrated ability and/or exceptional performance within a CSSD funded or Wheeler Clinic program, as well as substitution of experience for education on a year for year basis.

Displays excellent work habits (attendance, promptness, timeliness, professionalism), is open to feedback, and makes good use of time. Proven ability to work on a team to ensure program goals are met, communicates effectively verbally and in writing, and is committed to personal and program growth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepares, plans, and facilitates individual and group sessions, including booster sessions, with integrity and fidelity to curriculum in a solution-oriented manner.

Engages clients and addresses anti-social thinking, feeling, and acting. Demonstrates and reinforces concrete alternatives and problem-solving skills.

Utilizes motivational interviewing techniques to engage clients and their natural supports in AIC programming. Uses cognitive-behavioral approaches to behavior change.

Conducts client intakes, assessments, and Individualized Service Plans (ISPs) within established timeframes. Provides individual case management sessions and community linkages, and develops Transition Plans.

Monitors client behaviors and uses behavior management systems. Holds clients accountable and addresses ambivalence and resistance while helping clients maintain motivation to change. Addresses basic needs to support recovery and pro-social behavior change.

Actively participates in quality assurance activities including videotaping sessions and meeting with a quality assurance coach, attending trainings, data report analysis and review, etc.

Maintains accurate and timely documentation of group and collateral activities in agency and funder data systems.

Participates in efforts to meet and maintain performance-based measures set by agency and CSSD.

Participates in client-centered, strengths-based presentations/discussions in staff meetings.

Prepares reports that are accurate and timely, and updates referral sources on client activities on a regular basis.

Models pro-social behaviors and serves as a role model to clients and staff.

Operates as part of a team by providing program coverage for client services (including urinalysis) outside of normal work schedule, typical job function or primary work site, as requested (e.g., additional evening shifts may be required to ensure operational coverage).

Supervises toxicology testing. Supervised urine specimens shall only be collected from a client by a staff member of the same gender.

Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
