Job summary

Aspire River Oaks Charter School in Stockton is seeking an full‑time Intervention Specialist to provide one‑on‑one and small group support for students performing below grade level. The role emphasizes literacy interventions within the Aspire instructional framework and collaboration with teachers and specialists.

The position requires experience with literacy development, assessments, and data-driven instruction, plus a commitment to Aspire’s mission and afterschool literacy initiatives.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assesses students frequently and refines intervention activities to address individual student needs.
  • Develops and implements lesson plans and classroom activities consistent with California State Standards and Aspire Instructional Guidelines.
  • Organizes systems and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning.
  • Establishes a culture of high expectations that includes college preparation for all students.
  • Collaborates with Aspire team members to improve own and others’ instructional practices especially in literacy development; shares best practices.
  • Works closely with classroom teachers and education specialists to identify unique student needs; collaborates with team members and outside service providers to diagnose and address learning challenges.
  • Participates in professional development activities with Lead Teachers, Principal and Instructional Coaches.
  • Provides instruction with the afterschool program and collaborates with Afterschool Director to design and deliver professional development in literacy instruction to afterschool program staff.
  • Provides classroom teachers, students and parents/guardians with regular and timely information on student progress; involves parents/guardians in education.
  • Tracks critical student information and maintains accurate student records in Aspire systems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and support Aspire Public Schools’ mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, confidentiality standards, and ethical behavior.

This is a full-time, interim Intervention Specialist position at Aspire River Oaks Charter School in Stockton.

JOB SUMMARY

The Intervention Specialist will provide one‑on‑one and small group support for students performing below and far below grade level.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ongoing Activities:
  • Assesses students frequently, examines student assessment data, and refines intervention activities to address individual student needs

  • Collaborates with Aspire team members to improve own and others’ instructional practices especially in literacy development; shares best practices
  • Works closely with classroom teachers and education specialists to identify unique student needs; collaborates with team members and outside service providers to diagnose and address learning challenges
  • Actively participates in professional development activities, including: training sessions and working with Lead Teachers, Principal and Instructional Coaches
  • Provides instruction with the afterschool program and collaborates with Afterschool Director to design and deliver professional development in literacy instruction to afterschool program staff
  • Provides classroom teachers, students and parents/guardians with regular and timely information on student progress; finds ways to involve parents/guardians in their students’ education
  • Tracks critical student information and maintains accurate student records, including attendance, in accordance with Aspire procedures
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and support Aspire Public School’s mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • In–depth knowledge of literacy development and reading interventions
  • Knowledge of child and youth cognitive development and different learning styles

Minimum educational level & Required Credentials/Certifications:

Experience required:

  • 2+ years as a classroom teacher
  • Experience working with K‑5 students, particularly those reading two or more years behind grade level
Physical requirements:
  • Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
