Qualifications

WHAT WILL I DO AS AN INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGICAL TECHNOLOGIST AT ELLIS MEDICINE?

The Interventional Radiologic Technologist I (Rad Tech) will perform all responsibilities in either the Cath Lab or EP lab settings, acquiring the knowledge and skill to operate all equipment in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories and assist in all procedures.

Cath Lab:

  • Scrub utilizing sterile technique and assist interventional cardiologists with diagnostic & interventional cardiac catheterization procedures.
  • Assist with IVUS/FFR & other diagnostic intra-procedural tools
  • Rotational atherectomy (Rotoblator)
  • Assist with insertion of Impella/IABP/Temporary Pacemaker
  • STEMI/NSTEMI
  • Structural Heart Procedures (e.g., TAVR, Watchman, MitraClip, PFO Closures)

EP Lab:

  • Scrub utilizing sterile technique and assist cardiologists with electrophysiology procedures.
  • Pacemaker and/or AICD implants
  • Generator changes/lead revisions
  • EP studies/ablations

Additional Daily Duties:

  • Demonstrate a team leader approach, including taking initiatives to correct problems.
  • Become familiar with various equipment.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and communicating with vendors for malfunctions.
  • Assist as a preceptor, training new staff members.
  • Provide scheduled STEMI on-call coverage as monitor tech and scrub on a rotating basis.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

Cath Lab:

  • Prepare equipment and patients for Cardiac Catheterization Procedures.
  • Assist cardiologists in Cardiac Catheterization, PTCA, Rotablator, Stents, IABP, and deployment of hemostatic devices.
  • Monitor and record patient EKG, hemodynamic pressures, and other data during all procedures using MacLab.
  • Follow protocols for producing single patient records for the Centricity system.
  • Understand the technical aspects of all devices and equipment used.
  • Assist in general cath lab duties (e.g., stocking rooms, organizing procedure rooms).

EP Lab:

  • Prepare equipment and patients for Pacemaker Insertions, EP studies, ablations, ICD tests, and event recorders.
  • Assist cardiologists in diagnostic cardiac catheterization, EP studies, ablations, ICD tests, and event recorders.
  • Follow protocols for producing single patient records for the Centricity system.
  • Understand the technical aspects of all devices and equipment used.
  • Assist in general cath lab duties (e.g., stocking rooms, organizing procedure rooms).

WHAT DO I NEED TO BE AN INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGICAL TECHNOLOGIST AT ELLIS MEDICINE?

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):

  • Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technology school with current ARRT registry and possess a current NYS license in Radiologic Technology.
  • Attain the credential of Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist or Cardiac-Interventional Radiology within 24 months of hire.
  • BLS certification is mandatory.
  • Cardiac experience preferred but not required.
