Sylvania in Tucson, AZ is seeking an educator assistant to support teachers in implementing each student’s IEP, under supervision. This role involves aiding instructional activities, managing materials, and monitoring student progress in coordination with the Exceptional Education Department.

Required: a high school diploma or GED, basic English communication, and computer skills; willingness to obtain necessary clearances and immunizations as required by district policy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• AZ Dept. of Education-approved Academic Assessment Test OR Associate’s degree OR two years of college study.
• Two years of experience working with youth or children with disabilities.
• ASL or Braille skills if working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, or Braille skills for Braille users.
• Computer skills, including email usage.
• Fluent verbal and written English communication.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.


• Completion of an AZ Dept. of Education-approved Academic Assessment Test OR Associate’s (or higher) degree OR


• Two (2) years (60 Semester-Hour credits) of study at an institute of higher learning


• Two (2) years of experience working with youth or children with disabilities


• ASL (American Sign Language) skills if working with students/staff who are deaf or hard of hearing OR Braille Skills if working with students who use Braille.


• Computer skills, to include the ability to use email


• Verbal & written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions

REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO START DATE

• FBI fingerprint background check


• Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization


• CPR and First Aid Certification - Certification must be maintained current during course of employment


• Physical Examination with a 50lb. Lift Test to be done by one of the clinics with which the District contracts and sign a


• Medical History form


• Must hold a current Arizona Driver’s license and have accrued no more than the allowable points against Driver’s


• License as described under Governing Board Policy: EEB-R-1 Business and Personnel Transportation Services - Transportation by Employees


• Must release Social Security Number to be eligible for [Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System] AHCCCS Provider ID Number

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE

• Must complete Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Training within 6 months of hire


• Must complete Open Hands Open Access intervener training modules provided by the AZ Deafblind Project within 6 months of hire -Certification must be maintained current during course of employment. (Initial fee will be paid by the Exceptional Education Department all renewal cost will be the responsibility of the employee)


• Bloodborne Pathogen training offered by TUSD Risk Management Department

COMMENTS

Effective: 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR

LOCATION: Exceptional Education Department - Sites vary

FTE: 1.0 -8 hours per day

Positions less than 30 hours per week are not eligible for district benefits.

Salary will be prorated if the start date is after the first day of the work calendar for the position.

Internal candidates will transfer at a rate commensurate with their bargaining unit language.
