Job summary

U.S. Department of the Interior invites applications for a Park Ranger (Visitor Services Specialist) at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge in Decatur, Alabama. This temporary position is not to exceed 1,039 hours and is focused on delivering interpretive programs and coordinating visitor services.

The role requires educating diverse audiences, recruiting volunteers, and managing wildlife-dependent recreation opportunities in line with the Refuge Improvement Act. Applicants should be U.S.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of outdoor facilities such as trails, visitor centers, campgrounds.
• Ability to educate school groups about refuge resources and conservation.
• Knowledge of policies and procedures for Visitor Services programs.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develops and presents interpretive programs for the public and school groups.
• Assists in developing interpretive materials and environmental education resources.
• Recruits and trains volunteers and plans volunteer projects.
• Supports management of wildlife-dependent recreation opportunities at Wheeler Refuge.
