Job summary

Brandywine Creek State Park is seeking an individual to develop and conduct interpretive programs that raise public awareness and appreciation of Delaware State Parks. Work is performed indoors and outdoors, with weekend, evening, and holiday hours as scheduled.

This casual/seasonal position may lead to a Lead Naturalist role after evaluation and on-site experience. Brand-new hires must pass background checks and a swim assessment, with accommodations available if needed.

Qualifications

• Six months experience planning and delivering interpretive programs for adults and children.
• Six months experience coordinating and promoting special events or initiatives.
• Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.
• Knowledge of natural history, anthropology, entomology, ornithology, cultural history, recreation science, and/or ecology.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Develops and facilitates educational programs for schools and special events.
• Leads school environmental education programs tied to state standards to increase student understanding of Delaware’s natural and cultural resources.
• Delivers interpretive programs to participants of all ages in a variety of contexts.
• Helps coordinate and implement hayride programs at Brandywine Creek State Park.
• Provides general customer service and park information to visitors.
• Distributes interpretive publications.
• Leads educational and recreational hikes, canoe and kayak trips plus programs for park visitors.
