Job summary

UNC Rex Healthcare in Chapel Hill, NC is seeking a Per Diem Spanish-English interpreter to support patient and family communication across the UNC HealthCare system.

The role focuses on accurate interpretation, cultural mediation, and translating patient-facing materials. Requirements include a high school diploma and at least one year in health care or human services; work is onsite with a night schedule.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintains records related to translation requests and documents the nature of requests in patient records.
• Provides accurate face-to-face medical interpretation between Spanish-speaking patients and staff.
• Advocates for Spanish-speaking patients and families and assists care providers in understanding cultural considerations.
• Translates and maintains UNC HealthCare materials into Spanish and sources existing Spanish health information.

Summary

Provides translation-interpreter services for Spanish-speaking patients and their families, as needed throughout the UNC Healthcare System.

Responsibilities

• Maintains records related to translation requests and documents the nature of requests in patients? medical records


• Provides accurate face to face medical interpretation between Spanish speaking patients and staff in a variety of settings within UNC HealthCare.


• Serves as an advocate for Spanish speaking patients and their families assisting in the coordination of health needs. Assists care providers in understanding the Hispanic culture.


• Translates and maintains UNC HealthCare printed material into Spanish. Actively searches for existing Spanish language materials pertaining to health care and hospitalization.

Professional Experience Requirements

• One (1) year of experience in a health care or human services setting.
