Job summary

Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium is seeking an Interpretation Manager to oversee all aspects of its interpretive education program, engaging guests and inspiring conservation. The role leads the Conservation Education Department and collaborates across teams to plan and execute interpretive education initiatives.

The position requires a degree in education or a related field, five years in zoological education, and strong communication skills to develop signage, programs, and staff training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Zoology, Biology, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years in zoological education or a related informal education setting.
  • Strong knowledge of conservation, ecology, and zoology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience writing and designing educational signage copy preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of interpretive education programs at the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium.
  • Develop onsite interpretive education opportunities and signage to engage guests.
  • Collaborate with the Creative Department to refresh interpretive media and signage.
  • Lead staff training and supervise seasonal staff, including volunteers.
  • Monitor and evaluate programs and adapt based on feedback and outcomes.
