Job summary

Jobtailor in San Francisco seeks a technically versatile candidate to analyze sensor coverage for new machines. You will assess occlusions, model field of view, and run trade studies balancing performance, cost, and durability.

You will prototype mounting concepts, translate analyses into hardware sensor requirements, and collaborate with perception, hardware, and safety teams across sensor physics, autonomy architecture, and design.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in an engineering or engineering-adjacent discipline such as mechanical, electrical, physics, mechatronics, robotics, or computer science, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Solid grasp of 3D geometry, coordinate frames, and transforms
  • Python for analysis and tooling
  • CAD fluency sufficient to reason about hardware placement
  • Willingness to visit mock construction sites and test sensor configurations
  • Preferred: experience with device physics, ray tracing, rendering, or coverage simulation
  • Preferred: familiarity with autonomous vehicle sensor suites
  • Preferred: exposure to heavy equipment or off-road machinery
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Able to commute to the San Francisco location 3-4 days per week
