Job summary

Austin PBS, KLRU-TV invites you to join as a Production Intern in Austin, TX. You will work under the VP of Production and Production Manager, gaining exposure to field shoots, studio productions, and post-production coordination.

You’ll learn directly from production staff and executives, develop research and editing skills, and contribute to real PBS projects and community events. This internship is in-person and requires 15–20 hours per week for 13 weeks or more.

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate student actively enrolled for full duration of internship
  • Available for minimum 13 weeks
  • In-person internship required
  • 15-20 hour weekly commitment, preferably daily

Responsibilities

  • Assist production staff in field and studio shoots, logging video files, and research
  • Attend assigned studio and field productions when possible
  • Assist in producing segments, including field producing, logging, and editing
  • Provide support for in-studio productions and onsite events
  • Coordinate pre- and post-production activities and schedules
  • Conduct research and contribute to story development
  • Support studio and field production workflows
  • Handle video logging and editing tasks as needed

About Austin PBS, KLRU-TV

Austin PBS is your locally owned, community-supported PBS station in Central Texas. With thousands of hours of programming across multiple platforms and hundreds of community events each year, Austin PBS has the potential to reach nearly every household daily.

Each year, we broadcast 35,000 hours of free, curated content across our four channels and the PBS app, covering arts, culture, history, public affairs, and both local and national news.

But we are more than just a TV station—we are a mission-driven nonprofit media organization. Our goal is to educate, inspire, and entertain Central Texans through engaging programming and community events. Position Overview:

Under the supervision of the VP of Production and the Production Manager, interns will be responsible for assisting staff with Austin PBS productions. The interns will work closely with production executives, producers and production crew to gain a full understanding of television production.

Role & Responsibilities:
  • Assist the production staff in various aspects of field production such as field shoots, logging video files, internet research, and other duties as assigned
  • Attend assigned studio and field productions when available
  • Attain skills to assist in the producing of segments, which will include field producing, logging and editing of applicable segments
  • Provide support for the in studio productions as well as onsite events
  • Pre- and Post-production coordination

Important Information

  • Pay Rate: $20/hr.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current undergraduate student, ++must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program during the full duration of the internship++
  • Student must be available for a minimum of 13 weeks of this internship
  • Internship will be in-person
  • 15-20 hour weekly commitment, preferably daily
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong interest in broadcast and digital media
  • Familiarity with Austin PBS shows (watch TV!)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Comfortable working individually and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Google Sheets or Excel (familiarity with Microsoft Office)
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace (G Suite)
  • Excellent research skills
  • Experience handling and organizing production gear is preferred but not required
Physical Demands

The working conditions are primarily a general office setting, with some self-provided travel to off-site events and engagements
