Job summary

1X is building humanoid robots for home use. As a Manufacturing Engineer on the Manufacturing Engineering team, you’ll develop repeatable processes to take parts from stock to assembled hardware, build fixtures, and ensure production can scale with quality.

You’ll document CAD and process details, validate durability, and collaborate with design to improve manufacturability. You’ll thrive if you’re hands-on, comfortable with CAD tools, and eager to move quickly in a fast-moving robotics

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing or mechanical engineering.
  • Basic CAD skills using SolidWorks or Onshape.
  • Comfortable performing setup, assembly, and post-processing work.
  • Currently studying engineering or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and document repeatable manufacturing and assembly processes for prototype and pre-production parts that others can run reliably.
  • Build and improve fixtures, jigs, and workflows that reduce build time, scrap, and rework on the line.
  • Own process validation and durability testing for the parts and assemblies you support, surfacing failure modes early and driving fixes.
  • Produce and maintain accurate CAD and process documentation so parts and methods can be reproduced reliably across the team.
  • Partner with design and engineering on the next robot revision to drive design-for-manufacturability improvements before parts hit the floor.

Job description

About 1X

We’re building humanoid robots that work in home, doing the chores, handling the tasks, and giving people their time back. Simple, but it’s not.

To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, and manufacturing at the same time, at scale, in a form factor that has to be safe enough to live with your family. If you’re inspired by this, you’ll thrive here. We’ve been at this since 2014 and we’re at the point where the hard problems are behind us and the hard work is in front of us.

NEO is our flagship, a home robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside real people. We’re not demoing it, we’re shipping it. We’re excited to meet you, if this excites you.

If you’ve spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them actually reach the world, this is that moment. We’re scaling, we’re hiring with intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely change how humans spend their time, safely creating abundance for all.

About the Team

The Manufacturing Engineering team is where a working design becomes a robot we can build over and over, reliably and at volume. We own the processes, fixtures, and assembly methods that turn parts into NEO, and we close the loop between the bench and the line so every revision is easier and faster to produce than the last. If we can’t make it repeatably, it doesn’t ship, which puts our work squarely on the critical path to putting safe, capable humanoids in people’s homes.

Your Charter

Help create an abundant supply of physical labor through safe, intelligent humanoids that work alongside people, by making them manufacturable. In this role you’ll develop and improve the processes that take parts from raw stock to assembled, tested hardware, build the fixtures and workflows that make production repeatable, and feed what you learn on the floor straight back into the next robot revision. Every process you stand up moves NEO closer to shipping at scale, which means your work is production-critical, not a side project.

Key Outcomes

Key Competencies
  • Builder’s instinct, you reach for the tools and make the process work rather than waiting for perfect information.

  • Hands-on manufacturing aptitude across machining, 3D printing, assembly, and post-processing.

  • Comfort in CAD, translating design intent into clean, manufacturable parts and fixtures.

  • Process mindset, you think in terms of repeatability, throughput, and yield, not one-off builds.

  • Clear communicator who documents work so the line and the design team can build on it.

Minimum Requirements
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing or mechanical engineering.

  • Basic CAD skills (SolidWorks, Onshape, or similar).

  • Comfortable doing physical work, including setup, assembly, and post-processing.

  • Currently studying engineering or a related field.

Preferred Skills
  • Prior work on manufacturing processes, fixturing, robotics, mechatronics, or general hardware projects.

  • Exposure to design for manufacturability, process validation, or production scale-up.

What does a successful 1X Team Member look like

Team members at 1X who thrive here are builders. They move fast, own their work completely, and treat time like it’s the one thing you can’t get back, because it is. They say what they mean, finish what they start, and hold themselves to a standard before anyone has to ask. We push each other to be better, and we do it with honesty and respect.

On the Manufacturing Engineering team specifically, that shows up as:

  • Own It. You take responsibility. If a process is broken or a part won’t build, you fix it.

  • Move Fast. You make smart calls and iterate quickly instead of overanalyzing.

  • Be Resourceful. You figure things out when tools, time, or info are limited.

  • Learn & Improve. You absorb feedback, learn fast, and get better every week.

  • Build Trust. You do what you say, communicate clearly, and follow through.

If you know how to build and can figure things out quickly, that matters more to us than checking every box.

Compensation Range

$35.00/hr

Benefits
  • Generous paid time off, company holidays, and parental leave

  • Commuter benefits (transit and parking)

  • Short-term and long-term disability, and life insurance

  • Onsite snacks and catered lunches
