Job summary

Oneida ESC Group in Wisconsin is seeking a Civil Design Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. The program is rotational and offers hands-on training across Transportation, Survey Construction, Infrastructure, and Utilities Site Design teams, with in-office placement in Milwaukee or Madison.

You will assist with roadway design plans, learn Civil 3D, perform quantity calculations, and support drainage design while working with WisDOT standards and project teams.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Completion of at least the sophomore year before Summer 2027.
• Familiarity with Civil 3D and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Assist with roadway design plans and details per WisDOT standards.
• Support geometric layout using CAD tools (Civil 3D, MicroStation/OpenRoads).
• Perform quantity calculations, cost estimates, and basic analyses.
• Assist with drainage design and utility coordination tasks.
• Review WisDOT manuals, specs, and standard details.
• Prepare technical reports and project documentation.
• Participate in meetings and coordinate with team and external stakeholders.
• Occasionally visit project sites as needed.

Our primary clients are WisDOT, MnDOT, counties, municipalities, and private developers in Wisconsin.

OES has immediate openings for a Civil Design Engineering Intern for the Summer of 2027. This is a rotational program where you will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects supporting our Transportation, Survey Construction, Infrastructure, and Utilities Site Design Teams across the organization!

As we are hoping to provide hands-on training and mentorship for this internship, this opportunity is based in the office and can be based out of our Milwaukee or Madison, WI Offices.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation of roadway design plans, profiles, cross sections, and details in accordance with WisDOT standards
• Support geometric layout and alignment development using CAD software (e.g., MicroStation and/or OpenRoads Designer)
• Perform quantity calculations, cost estimates, and basic engineering analyses
• Assist with drainage design and utility coordination tasks
• Review and apply WisDOT design manuals, specifications, and standard details
• Support the preparation of technical reports and documentation
• Participate in project meetings and coordinate with internal team members and external stakeholders
• Conduct occasional field visits to project sites (as needed)

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
• Completion of at least the sophomore year before Summer 2027
• Basic understanding of civil engineering principles
• Familiarity with the software system Civil 3D
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
