Job summary

3M is seeking an Undergraduate IT Intern for Summer 2027, based on-site at 3M Center in Maplewood, MN. You’ll work full-time for a 10-12 week assignment and gain exposure across data analytics, enterprise apps, infrastructure, ISRC, and digital transformation.

Interns receive housing and transportation stipends and the role helps transition from prior experience into a 3M career, with opportunities to develop technical and leadership skills.

Internship - 2027 Undergraduate IT Intern

The role of Undergraduate IT Intern is intended to start in Summer 2027.

An internship is a temporary position within 3M. Interns typically work a full-time schedule throughout a 10-12 week assignment. This position is limited to working 899 hours per service credit year. 3M provides eligible interns with a housing and transportation stipend in accordance with current policy.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career.

IT Internship assignments are available for both Technical and Business roles and are in the following areas:

• Data & Analytics. This organization supports enterprise-wide master data management, data engineering, data integration, data quality, data science and artificial Intelligence (AI). Teams work with several technologies, including Power BI, Python, SQL, Snowflake, Power Platform, and more. Internship opportunities include both business and technical analyst.


• Enterprise Applications. The Enterprise Applications (EA) team develops and delivers work on the SAP and legacy Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. They focus on providing an optimized experience for both customers and employees. Teams within this area work globally and across several different areas within 3M including, but not limited to, manufacturing execution, research and development, and corporate divisions. Internship opportunities are available for business analysis, technical analysis, user experience and development.


• Infrastructure Services. This organization provides flexible, enterprise-wide technologies to enable solutions and enhance platform performance and reliability to 3M’s customers, suppliers and employees. Infrastructure Services deploys and supports both on-premise and cloud technologies globally. Teams with internship opportunities include networking, edge computing, platform engineering, web hosting and others.


• Information Security, Risk & Compliance (ISRC). The Information Security, Risk & Compliance (ISRC) team is responsible to protect 3M’s intellectual property, non-public company information and data, the information and privacy of 3M, workers, and entrusted information from customers and business partners. This team also protects against cyber-attacks and data breaches and prevents unauthorized access and cyber threats. The organization includes business and technical analysis roles within Risk & Compliance, Security Delivery & Architecture, Cybersecurity Operations, Data Protection, and Cybersecurity Transformation.


• Digital Transformation. The Digital Transformation team investigates and drives implementation of new processes and technologies within the 3M business groups to drive growth and enhance customer experience. They also provide company-wide strategy for digital customer, digital product, digital operations and digital enterprise. This team owns the digital product commercialization process, which includes development, project management and platform support.


• IT Strategy & Services. The IT Strategy & Services team is a centralized organization to guide, optimize and facilitate the delivery and execution of cross-functional activities within IT. The team is comprised of mergers & acquisitions, workforce planning, facilities, vendor management, and project management. Internship opportunities are primarily for business analyst roles.

Your Skills And Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:

1. Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

1. Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in information technology, management information systems, computer science, computer engineering or a STEM related discipline from an accredited institution


2. Current cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale


3. Previous experience working in Information Technology


4. Previous relevant intern experience or co-op with a company or university


5. Strong problem-solving skills

8. Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and presentation).

Work location: This role has on-site working model, with the employee working at least four days a week in the office at 3M Center, located in Maplewood, MN.

Relocation: 3M provides eligible interns with a housing and transportation stipend in accordance with current policy.
