Job summary

Cooper Norcross Health in New Jersey is seeking a part-time internist to provide coverage across adult primary care, nursing homes, and sub-acute facilities within the Division of Internal Medicine in Southern New Jersey. The physician will support continuity of care through direct patient care, transitions from inpatient to outpatient, and coverage for provider absences.

The schedule is set about a month in advance with flexibility for urgent needs; compensation is competitive with benefits

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree earned and board eligible/certified.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine Residency program.
  • Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Board Eligible for new graduates.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in adult primary care outpatient and nursing facility settings.
  • Deliver nursing home and sub-acute care including admissions and follow-up visits.
  • Travel to multiple South Jersey clinic locations as needed for coverage.
  • Manage in-basket tasks: test results, patient messages, medication refills; communicate results to PCP.
  • Support scheduling and provide coverage for urgent provider absences as needed.

Unit Overview

The Division of Cooper General Internal Medicine is a part of Cooper University Health Care and provides Adult Primary Care to the communities of Southern New Jersey and physician services to Sub-Acute and Nursing facilities in the South Jersey area. We are a large Academic division of about 80 health care providers comprising Physicians and Advanced Practice Professionals located at sixteen clinical sites in South Jersey. We cover a large geographical area including practices within 30 minutes to Philadelphia, Wilmington, and Trenton. Division faculty are actively involved in the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Cooper Health and medical student education for Cooper Medical School at Rowan University. Our providers participate in an Accountable Care Organization with a population health team to support our providers. We have a dedicated team of Primary Care Providers with a shared mission of to “To Serve, To Heal, To Educate.”

Short Description

This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) clinical position providing coverage across adult primary care practices, nursing homes, and sub-acute facilities within the Division of Internal Medicine in Southern New Jersey. The physician will support continuity of care through direct patient care, inpatient-to-outpatient transitions, and coverage for provider absences.

In general, the clinical schedule is established approximately one month in advance, though flexibility is required to accommodate urgent coverage needs.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care in adult primary care outpatient settings
    • Acute visits
    • Annual wellness visits
    • Post-hospital discharge follow-up visits
  • Deliver nursing home and sub-acute care, which may include:
    • New admissions
    • Weekly and/or monthly follow-up visits
  • Maintain flexibility to travel to multiple South Jersey clinic locations within the Division of Internal Medicine
  • Be available to provide coverage at any affiliated nursing home service location
In-Basket & Results Management
  • May be asked to cover in-basket tasks for providers being covered
  • Responsible for managing:
    • Test results
    • Patient messages
    • Medication refill requests for patients the physician has personally seen or for whom orders were placed
  • When appropriate, results may be deferred to the patient’s primary care provider; however:
    • All results must be clearly communicated to the PCP
    • Urgent or emergent results must be addressed by the covering physician in a timely manner
    • If unable to address urgent findings promptly, the physician must directly contact the PCP or designated covering provider
Scheduling & Coverage Expectations
  • Flexibility is required to respond to short-notice coverage needs, including:
    • Same-day requests
    • Evening or night-before requests
      (e.g., unexpected illness or urgent provider absence)

Hourly Rate Min $91.27

Hourly Rate Max $206.22

The New Jersey Pay Transparency Act requires disclosure of the pay range for this position.
