Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking an IoT field engineer to deploy industrial IoT solutions and connect physical assets to enterprise data platforms. You will perform hardware selection, device configuration, and handoffs to site teams in alignment with enterprise standards.

Under supervision, you will configure and program field devices, support data ingestion components, and perform root-cause analysis of failures while documenting incidents for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, CS, Electrical or mining-related Engineering with 1 year IoT field experience.
  • High School diploma or GED with 5 years IoT experience and customer-service skills.
  • Certifications such as CCNA, Azure IoT Fundamentals (AZ-900/AZ-220) or ITIL are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy IoT field engineering solutions connecting assets to enterprise data platforms per enterprise standards.
  • Configure field devices and ingestion components in vendor platforms (datalogger scripts, codecs, telemetry rules).
  • Support field devices and IoT infra with root-cause analysis and post-incident documentation.
  • Work within device standards and approved hardware catalogs, provide feedback for improvements.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

What You Will Do

Under direct supervision, deploy industrial IoT solutions that connect physical assets to enterprise data platforms, enabling operational insight and automation across sites, while focusing on field engineering tasks such as hardware selection, device configuration, and solution handoff to site teams in alignment with enterprise standards.

  • Participate in execution of IoT field engineering engagements by gathering operational requirements, applying approved hardware and design patterns, and working with customers to support standardized design decisions.
  • Configure and program field devices and ingestion components within vendor‑supported platforms, including datalogger scripting, payload codecs, or telemetry rules engines.
  • Support field devices and IoT infrastructure through root cause analysis of failures, connectivity issues, and data quality problems, while keeping stakeholders informed and contributing to post‑incident documentation.
  • Operate within established device standards and approved hardware catalogs, providing implementation feedback to support continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
What You Bring To Freeport
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical or a mining‑related Engineering discipline, and one (1) year of experience in industrial IoT or field device engineering/instrumentation implementation projects.

Alternative Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED and five (5) years of experience in IoT‑related technologies, including demonstrated hands‑on experience with low‑voltage field devices including cameras, sensors or data loggers, and associated field wiring and communications infrastructure. Must be customer service‑oriented and possess good organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Foundational industry certifications such as CCNA, Azure IoT Fundamentals (AZ‑900/AZ‑220 path), or ITIL Foundation are a plus.
What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently$75,000-$104,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job‑related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
