Job summary

Cal State East Bay is seeking an experienced Student Services Professional III to manage SEVIS reporting for F-1 students and provide comprehensive support to international students. Salary Range: $5,540.00 per month to $7,893.00 per month. PLEASENOTE: The starting salary placement depends on qualificationsand experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $5,540.00per month to $6,716.00 per month.

About the Position

Manage federal SEVIS reporting requirements on behalf of CSUEB(i.e. communication with the Department of Homeland Security aboutthe F-1 students admitted to and attending CSUEB). Assistinternational students (F-1) to understand the complex nature ofthe legal status in the U.S. vis‑‑‑?? Developmentand implementation of on-going services such as orientation,immigration workshops, and other non-immigration focused programs.Serve as a liaison for CIE and provide customer service. Assistancewith international recruitment efforts, as needed.

Responsibilities

F-1 Student Advising

• Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for F-1 studentprogram.


• Provide student-centered guidance and advice to internationalstudents in person, via phone, online, and other modes.


• Review and process F-1 related student requests that includebut not limited to employment, program extensions, travelsignatures, reduced course loads, health insurance and more.


• Ensure up to date, clear, and accurate information on allmaterials, print, digital, and website related to F-1 requests


• Monitor and track updates via NAFSA, the CSU ISSS, and othernetworks.


• Review and update student request processes and work withappropriate departments, such as IT, to resolve any tech relatedissues.

Department of Homeland Security Compliance and Reporting inSEVIS

• Track, meet, and follow SEVIS reporting requirements.


• Maintain accurate F-1 student SEVIS records in all systems inuse and ensure accurate digital/physical records.


• Provide follow-up with F-1 students approaching key dates anddeadlines.


• Communicate with SEVIS HelpDesk to correct data errors.


• Support Recertification and other DSO related requests.

International Health Insurance & Other Services

• Oversee and ensure compliance of F-1 insurance coverage andbenefits for F-1 and J-1 students in Center for InternationalEducation.


• Maintain database for international students and ensureaccuracy of student lists.


• Ensure accurate information across all student communicationplatforms (online, messages, print, etc.).


• Troubleshoot health insurance related issues from paymentcollection to internal setups.


• Coordinate and present international student health insurancerequirements to students and include key stakeholders.


• Support other international student service initiativesdeveloped by CIE.

International Student Advising Support

• Support and review the accurate collection of requireddocuments for initial I-20 issuance and provide guidance onpre-arrival materials and communication.


• Support the analysis of current immigration statuses anddocumentary needs.


• Communicate with International Admissions, Global Academy, andother parties on topics related to the issuance of legal documentsand our document collection.


• Advise Visiting Student Program on immigration, academics, andother topics.

Other Duties as Assigned

• Assist with recruitment of international students. Includecampus personnel and other departments as necessary.


• Create and submit reports to the Director as needed.


• Support new initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and groupbehavior.


• General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends ofthe Student Services field as well as general knowledge of thepolicies, procedures and practices of the program area to whichassigned.


• General knowledge of individual counseling techniques.


• General knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire suchknowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of thespecific campus to which the position is assigned .


• Working knowledge of student services programs outside theprogram to which immediately assigned.


• Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopteffective courses of action.


• Ability to advise students individually and in groups oncomplex student‑related matters.


• Ability to determine appropriate courses of action and propertechniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personalinteractions of an argumentative or sensitive nature.


• Ability to interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanationsof problems brought forward by individuals or studentorganizations, analyze and define the problem, draw validconclusions and project consequences of various alternative coursesof action.


• Ability to carry out a variety of professionally complexassignments without detailed instructions.


• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative workingrelationships with a variety of individuals.

Experience

• Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typicallydemonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressivelyresponsible professional student services work experience.


• One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferredbut is not required.


• A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, SocialWork, or a directly related field may be substituted for one yearof experience.


• A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinicaltraining in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the threeyears of experience for positions with a major responsibility forprofessional career or personal counseling.

Education

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or universityin a related field, including or supplemented by upper division orgraduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, andconflict resolution where such are job-related.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

• Knowledge of F-1 and basic knowledge of J-1 regulations as theypertain to CSUEB students and scholars.


• Familiarity and ability to utilize SEVIS (the Student andExchange Visitor Information System).


• Ability to work independently and as a fully contributingmember of a team within a diverse multicultural environment.


• Good oral, written, and cross-cultural communicationskills.
