Job Summary

Provides advising and information to international students and thecommunity regarding F-1 immigration regulations and Universitypolicies and resources. Serves as the Designated School Official(DSO) in the updating of the Student and Exchange VisitorInformation System (SEVIS) database in compliance with Departmentof Homeland Security (DHS) regulations.

Essential Functions

Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and ensures compliancewith Department of Homeland Security (DHS) rules and regulations.Advises students on federal, state and local requirements tomaintain their status in the United States. Works with SEVIS andinternal database to issue I-20s, process registrations, addressupdates, and student requests for employment. Monitors SEVIS alertsand communicates with students as needed. Coordinate with academicadvisors to ensure international student enrollment and academicprogress is in compliance with immigration regulations. Serve as arepresentative, advocate, and/or spokesperson for internationalstudents in dealing with other campus departments and communitymembers.

Job Duties

This role provides a mixture of student advising, paperworkincluding follow-up as well as compliance checkpoints.

Required Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience in student services or relatedfield
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to explain complex policies, procedures, and academicrequirements in clear, student-friendly language
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diversebackgrounds and experiences.
  • Ability to adapt to changing institutional and governmentalpriorities, policies, procedures, and technology
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, takeinitiative, exercise sound judgment, and effectively prioritize andmanage responsibilities
  • Ability to make sound, independent decisions when policies orguidance do not clearly address a situation
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive
  • Demonstrates cross-cultural sensitivity.
  • Requires a U.S. citizen or permanent resident as require by lawfor this position.
Additional Information:

Applicants must meet the requirement of being a "U. S. Citizen"or a Lawful Permanent Residence because the position requiresaccess to the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System(SEVIS), a federal government database.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate acomputer and other office equipment including but not limited tophone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicatewith others and accurately exchange information. Ability to move ortraverse across campus, within buildings and offices, and/or acrossexternal environments.
