Who We Are:

Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 13,000 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. Our District has one early learning centre, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school programme divided between two 9 - 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Middle Years Program (MYP) Coach serves as the curricular, instructional, and professional learning leader of an IB Middle School and is responsible for the development of all phases of the Middle Years Program. Our curricular framework will be built within, but not limited to, the MYP framework. The MYP Coach will assist the Middle School administration and the Director of Teaching and Learning, in the formulation and execution of planning for and accreditation processes though IB, training staff, and in executing the school's curricular improvement plans.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

Valid Illinois teacher certification with required endorsements for subject and level assigned Preference for candidates who have previous experience leading or teaching in the MYP Program

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
  • Ability to interpret data and evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to collaborate across diverse stakeholder groups
Experience:

A minimum of three years teaching experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Main Leadership Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate the planning, implementation and monitoring of programme development initiatives
  2. Communicate with the IB for authorization and evaluation, and serve as the main point of contact between the IB and the school sharing frequent updates with staff.
  3. Communicate with parents, legal guardians and the wider community about the school's IB programme(s)
  4. Document the curriculum used in the school's programme(s)
  5. Ensure teachers' access to programme documentation and IB frameworks via the programme resource centre, providing updated information from IB as it is published
  6. Ensure access to relevant communities (online or face to face) for all teachers and staff who support learning in the programme(s)
  7. Foster ongoing learner and teacher collaboration in the programme(s)
  8. Lead IB-mandated policy development in accordance with "Culture" in Programme standards and practices
  9. Inform the school community of, and monitor, IB-mandated PD, ensuring the school meets requirements related to official PD
  10. Monitor the implementation of core components of the programme(s), including the IB Standards & Practices and the Personal Project in the MYP
  11. Support the administration of IB-mandated assessments (if applicable)
  12. Participates as a member of the school leadership team
Supporting Responsibilities
  1. Designing the curriculum used in the school's programme(s)
  2. Developing the school's mission, vision and strategy
  3. Developing, coaching and promoting key pedagogical elements in the programme(s) (approaches to learning, approaches to teaching, the IB learner role, and so on)
  4. Introducing and/or inducting new staff to the school's IB programmes
  5. Documenting and monitoring in-school assessment
  6. General PD (not mandated by the IB)
  7. Providing guidance to learners on the next steps in their learning or transitions beyond the school
  8. Scheduling or timetabling
Other
  1. Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
  2. Adhere to the district's safety policies and procedures
  3. Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business
  4. Other duties as assigned by the District and/or Principal
