Job summary

Tecnico seeks a seasoned shipboard production supervisor in Chesapeake, VA. Direct daily operations to meet production goals, uphold safety and quality, and coordinate with the shift PMT. Mentor apprentices and coordinate with SMEs to share knowledge on the floor. You will assign personnel, manage staffing with temp agencies, and maintain training records, while ensuring PPE compliance and security clearance readiness.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience in shipboard production, fabrication, installation, and repair.
  • 1-2 years in a supervisory or lead position.
  • Ability to pass Drug Screening and Work Ability Screening.
  • Ability to obtain a government facility security pass.

Responsibilities

  • Direct daily operations in alignment with production goals, quality expectations, and safety requirements.
  • Communicate with the Production Manager on shift performance, staffing needs, scheduling issues, and operational challenges.
  • Assign personnel to meet daily job requirements based on PMT requests; coordinate with temp agencies when needed.
  • Collaborate with production personnel and tooling to suggest modifications or improvements to tooling and equipment.
  • Mentor and train apprentices, ensuring skill development and adherence to work standards.
  • Perform routine walkthroughs to monitor progress and support PMTs.
  • Collaborate with SMEs to support day-to-day operations and knowledge sharing.
  • Maintain training records with Workforce Development.
  • Build and maintain relationships with labor support vendors, including temp staffing agencies.
  • Apply motivational strategies to engage team members and improve performance.
  • Address employee concerns and escalate unresolved matters as needed.
  • Ensure timely response to CARs and verify corrective actions.
  • Enforce safety policies and conduct safety briefings; ensure PPE compliance on the ship.

Summary

Directs and coordinates activities concerned with production utilizing knowledge of technology, methods and procedures, and capabilities of the current workforce.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Direct daily operations in alignment with production goals, quality expectations, and safety requirements.
  • Communicate directly with the Production Manager on shift performance, staffing needs, scheduling issues, and operational challenges.
  • Assign personnel to meet daily job requirements based on PMT requests, adjusting for availability, priorities, and staffing levels. Coordinate with temp agencies when internal labor is insufficient.
  • Collaborate with production personnel and tool control to suggest modifications or improvements to tooling and equipment.
  • Mentor and train apprentices, ensuring skill development and adherence to work standards.
  • Perform routine walkthroughs of ongoing projects to monitor progress, provide guidance, and support Ship Project Management Teams (PMTs).
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to support day-to-day operations, facilitate knowledge-sharing on the floor, and ensure seamless implementation of technical guidance.
  • Collaborate with Workforce Development to maintain accurate and timely training records
  • Build and maintain relationships with labor support vendors, including temporary staffing agencies.
  • Apply motivational strategies to engage team members and enhance performance outcomes.
  • Assist in addressing employee concerns and grievances, and escalation unresolved matters to the Production Manager or HR.
  • Ensure timely response to Corrective Action Reports (CARs), verify completion of corrective actions, maintain records, and follow up to confirm ongoing compliance.
  • Enforce safety policies, conduct safety briefings, and ensure PPE compliance when on the ship.
Experience Requirements
  • 5-7 years of experience with shipboard production, fabrication, installation, and repair.
  • 1-2 years in a supervisory or lead position.
Other Requirements
  • Must be able to pass Drug Screening, Work Ability Screening.
  • Must be able to obtain a government facility security pass.
