Job summary

SEIU Local 521 seeks an Internal Organizer to identify, recruit, train and develop stewards and officers, and to lead worksite campaigns on issues including public budget matters, contract negotiations and safety.

Responsibilities also include creating communication systems, writing leaflets and newsletters, negotiating or assisting in negotiations, monitoring stewards, and meeting contract timelines. Salary ranges from $86,649.69 to $110,620.48 with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Willingness to travel frequently and/or for extended periods within the local jurisdiction.
• Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
• A commitment to social and economic justice and organizing the unorganized.
• At least one year of experience as a full-time external organizer or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Identify, recruit, train, develop stewards and officers.
• Lead campaigns for worksite issues including public budget, contract negotiations, safety.
• Create or assist in member communications; write leaflets and newsletters; help negotiate contracts.
• Monitor stewards and officers in representational duties; ensure follow-through on grievances.
• Meet timelines and procedures related to labor contracts and bylaws.
• Encourage participation in politics and lobbying and hold officials accountable.
• Lead residual organizing campaigns and recruit volunteers.
