The Internal Mortgage Loan Originator is responsible for generating mortgage loan volume through referrals from branches, call center staff, member service channels, marketing campaigns, and existing member relationships. This role focuses on consultative sales, member education, and mortgage origination while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and credit union policies.

This position serves as the primary point of contact for mortgage applicants, guiding members through the mortgage process from initial inquiry through closing while collaborating with processing, underwriting, and closing staff to provide an exceptional home-financing experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Originate conventional, government, jumbo, portfolio, HELOC, and other residential real estate loan products offered by Resound Credit Union.
2. Interview prospective borrowers to determine financing needs and recommend appropriate mortgage solutions.
3. Convert internal leads and referrals into funded mortgage loans.
4. Conduct loan consultations in person, by phone, and through digital channels.
5. Build and maintain a strong pipeline of mortgage loan opportunities.
6. Achieve established mortgage production goals, pull-through rates, and member satisfaction objectives.
7. Guide members through the mortgage loan application process from application through closing.
8. Educate members regarding loan products, rates, fees, and closing requirements.
9. Maintain consistent communication with applicants regarding loan status and next steps.
10. Deliver exceptional service that enhances member loyalty and deepens relationships with the credit union.
11. Develop relationships with branch teams to encourage mortgage referrals.
12. Participate in community events, homebuyer seminars, financial wellness programs, and credit union marketing initiatives.
13. Establish and maintain referral relationships with real estate professionals, builders, financial planners, and other business partners as approved by management.
14. Promote the Resound Credit Union mortgage brand throughout the market area.
15. Collect complete and accurate applicant information and documentation.
16. Ensure all applications meet regulatory and credit union requirements.
17. Maintain compliance with SAFE Act requirements and all NMLS licensing or registration standards.
18. Adhere to TRID, ECOA, HMDA, Fair Lending, BSA/AML, Privacy, and all applicable regulations.
19. Maintain accurate records and documentation within loan origination systems.
20. Work closely with underwriting and processing staff to facilitate timely loan decisions and closings.
21. Partner with branch personnel to identify mortgage opportunities.
22. Coordinate with processors, underwriters, closers, and title companies to ensure efficient loan processing.
23. Assist with mortgage sales training for branch and call center staff.
24. Support strategic initiatives designed to increase mortgage market share and member engagement.
25. Performs other duties as requested.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in business, finance, marketing, or related field preferred.

Experience

Minimum of three years of mortgage origination experience is preferred with a proven track record of mortgage loan production and member relationship development. Credit union experience is preferred. Must have a strong understanding of residential mortgage products and mortgage lending regulations. Also have knowledge of secondary market, conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, and portfolio lending. Must be proficient with loan origination systems, Microsoft office, and CRM platforms.

Physical, mental and visual requirements

Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use standard office equipment. Must be able to travel periodically for community events, business development activities, and meetings. Occasionally must work evenings or weekends to support member needs and community engagement activities.

Other

NMLS registration or ability to obtain and maintain registration. A valid Tennessee driver's license is required as the company car or use of a personal vehicle is needed for this position.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a professional appearance and pleasant personality. Excellent sales, communication, and relationship building skills along with strong organizational and time management abilities are required. Must be able to manage multiple loans and deadlines simultaneously. Able to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
