Job summary

Veterinary Specialty Hospital North County is seeking an Internal Medicine Veterinary Assistant to join our team in San Marcos, CA. The role is full‑time, four days per week (Mon–Thu), 8:00 AM–6:30 PM, with a pay range of $18.00–$28.00/hour (DOE).

You will support specialists and technicians caring for patients with complex medical conditions. Experience in a veterinary setting, strong animal handling, and excellent communication are essential.

• Minimum one year of veterinary hospital experience preferred.
• Strong animal handling and restraint skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Reliability and consistent follow‑through.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to prioritize and work efficiently in a busy specialty hospital.
• Interest in Internal Medicine, advanced diagnostics, and continued clinical development.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with Internal Medicine appointments, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures.
• Provide hands‑on patient care, monitoring, restraint, and nursing support.
• Assist with patient preparation and recovery for diagnostic and specialty procedures.
• Support procedures including endoscopy, rhinoscopy, and ultrasound.
• Assist with collection and preparation of blood and other laboratory samples.
• Support diagnostic imaging and radiographic procedures.
• Prepare procedure areas, equipment, and supplies for Internal Medicine cases.
• Monitor patients and promptly communicate changes or concerns to the medical team.
• Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked treatment and procedure areas.
• Maintain accurate patient information and documentation.
• Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients and hospital team members.
• Collaborate with Internal Medicine specialists, Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, and other hospital departments to provide exceptional patient care.
