Qualifications

• DVM or VMD degree from accredited veterinary college.
• Board certification in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine (ACVIM).
• Valid Washington state veterinary license and DEA license.

Responsibilities

• Schedule new and returning clients and refer cases; coordinate with ER team.
• Manage ICU patients alongside ER staff and participate in rounds.
• Obtain complete medical histories and perform thorough physical exams.
• Develop problem lists, differential diagnoses, and treatment plans.
• Perform IM diagnostics and procedures including endoscopy and biopsies.
• Document medical records in SOAP format and communicate costs clearly.

Timberline Veterinary Emergency and Specialty (TVES) is a rapidly growing, locally owned 24-hr emergency and specialty hospital located in Seattle, WA. Founded by Dr. Beth Davidow (DACVECC), Dr. Laura Ahlgrim and Dr. Chris Bailey. We currently have Critical Care, Surgery, Medical Oncology, Internal Medicine with local support for histopathology, radiology/ultrasound and cardiology. We occupy a 21,000 sq/ft single story building and have a new Toshiba 128 slice CT scan, high flow oxygen, ventilator and established community driven blood bank.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for an Internal Medicine Specialist that wants to expand and grow our Internal Medicine service at TVES. This role involves participating in hospital rounds, managing a combination of both inpatients and outpatients with complex medical problems and working collaboratively with our referring veterinarians and the TVES team to provide exceptional veterinary medicine. The ideal candidate would be excited to be involved in the selection of the IM team and help further establish the service within our hospital. We are looking for an individual that loves to learn and is constantly challenging and changing practices based on new evidence. With additional specialty support, we hope to expand our ability to perform clinical trials at our facility, further train and support our VTS aspiring LVTs and continuously improve on our in-hospital protocols.

Job Description:

TVES Internal Medicine specialist will be an integral part of our team to support our mission through exceptional veterinary care. Our Internal Medicine specialist will be responsible for leading the IM service in providing focused care for our patients in need of advanced diagnostics and case management. Responsibilities will include training of the IM team, mentoring our employees and providing exceptional internal medicine interventions for our patients to contribute to our culture of employee engagement and ownership. Exceptional patient care involves partnership and communication with clients and primary care veterinarians as well as providing evidence based, cost effective, compassionate, and timely care.

Essential Job Duties:

• Working with staff to schedule new and returning clients/patients and timely accommodation of referral cases
• Working with the ER team to manage the patients in the ICU which are best served through the Internal Medicine department
• Determining client concerns and obtaining complete medical histories
• Receiving and assessing patients and performing complete physical examinations
• Developing a problem list, differential diagnostic list, diagnostic and treatment plan
• Performing common IM procedures and diagnostics including endoscopy, gastric foreign body retrieval, endoscopic biopsies, endoscopic placement of feeding tubes, rhinoscopy, bronchoscopy, bone marrow aspirates, blood cultures, advanced blood work testing
• Communicate accurately and clearly with clients about diagnostics, treatments and costs
  associated with patient care
• Complete accurate medical records in SOAP format with treatment plans on all animals seen before leaving at the end of the shift.
• Communicate at least once per shift with clients who have animals in the hospital – this includes updating financial estimates and deposits DAILY
• Answer questions about cases and case transfers promptly from primary care veterinarians
• Report safety concerns, adverse events, and unanticipated patient outcomes to TVES owners and clients promptly and accurately
• Update the incoming veterinarian and ER team in a clear and accurate manner about cases which are co-managed and their status
• Collaborate with other veterinarians in the practice to provide seamless care and an atmosphere of continuous learning
• Active participation in morning ICU rounds
• Collaboration with our referring veterinarians
• Participate in mandatory doctor and all staff meetings
• Participate when requested in the review process for other doctors and staff
• Participate in visits to primary care veterinarians to build community and awareness of our service
• Participate and provide continuing education for the ER/IM team, primary care veterinarians, and visiting students and trainees
• Participation in clinical trials conducted at TVES when applicable
• Write articles yearly for the website blog and/or email newsletter
