Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a full-time internal medicine physician to join the International Patient Services Division in Boston. The role supports international patients visiting Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, coordinating care with clinical teams across the system.

You will provide primary and focused care, round on inpatients weekly, and communicate with referring physicians and payors to ensure a smooth care journey.

Qualifications

  • Licensed and board-certified internal medicine physician in good standing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of practice preferred.
  • Eligible for clinical privileges in internal medicine at both BWH and MGH.
  • Proficiency in a second language preferred (Arabic, Spanish, Chinese).
  • Experience in primary care and hospital medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary and focused care management to international patients during their stay in Boston.
  • Rounds on inpatients weekly with care coordination across clinical teams.
  • Communicate regularly with referring physicians, embassy coordinators, and payors.
  • Participate in QA/QI reviews and executive physical exams for international patients.

Job Summary

The International Patient Services Division of MGB International seeks a full-time physician to join their practice.
Mass General Brigham (MGB) is one of the United States’ leading healthcare systems; it includes Massachusetts General and Brigham and Women’s Hospitals, both major teaching affiliates of Harvard Medical School. At MGB, our Harvard faculty deliver exceptional care with both passion and purpose.

The International Patient Center (IPC) serves thousands of patients each year from more than 120 countries and provides a complete service for patients visiting the hospital from countries outside of the United States. The IPC works to serve referring physicians, payors and internal clinical specialists as well as to support patients during the complete span of their care journey. The center staff includes physicians, administrators, multi-lingual patient liaisons and intake specialists all helping to coordinate the multiple components of each international patient’s visit to Boston for medical care.

Reports to: Medical Director, MGB International
Hours/FTE: Full-time position, 1.0 FTE, 8 sessions weekly
Location: Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Provides primary and focused care management to BWH and MGH international patients during their stay in Boston for specialty management of often complex conditions.
  • Cares for a culturally diverse group of patients from around the world.
  • Rounds on all international inpatients weekly at both BWH and MGH with a focus on care coordination with clinical teams and optimizing patient experience.
  • Coordinates care between multiple specialties across MGB.
  • Communicates regularly with patients’ referring physicians from their home country, embassy medical coordinators, and other third parties on the status of the patient’s treatment.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for all IPC staff in the triaging of new cases, clinical questions, and ordering/documentation requests.
  • Participates in QA/QI reviews of international patient cases.
  • Conducts comprehensive “executive physical exams” for international patients according to pre-established guidelines.
  • Travels to offsite meetings (domestic and international) with key stakeholders.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Licensed and board-certified internal medicine physician in good standing with demonstrated customer service and team practice skills.
  • Minimum of 5 years of practice preferred.
  • Eligible for clinical privileges in internal medicine at both BWH and MGH.

Skills / Abilities / Competencies Required:

  • Proven clinical skills with experience in either or both primary care and hospital medicine.
  • Patient-centered approach to clinical care with additional focus on other key stakeholders: international referral sources and payers.
  • Proven customer service/excellent bedside manner.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently toward departmental and organizational goals.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Proficiency in a second language preferred (Arabic, Spanish, Chinese).
  • Information Systems/Technology Skills: Proven competency in electronic medical records, desktop applications including CRM, e-mail, and telemedicine technology.
  • Safety/Compliance: Knowledge of all aspects of safety and ability to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff. Knowledgeable and compliant in all hospital, State, and Federal regulatory requirements, including hospital policy and procedures applicable to work performance.
  • Quality Assurance: Ability to effectively participate in efficient, patient-oriented day-to-day operations, follow and maintain policies and procedures, suggest changes, as necessary, and function as part of a medical team; respond to safety reports.
