Job summary

The New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs seeks an Internal Investigator 1 to perform pre-adjudication investigations, interview witnesses, collect evidence, and prepare narrative reports for civil cases. This role supports coordination with law enforcement and other agencies to ensure proper case handling.

Ideal candidates have substantial investigative experience, plus qualified education, with opportunities to testify and contribute to adjudicatory

Qualifications

• Four years of investigative experience and satisfactory completion of a two-year traineeship.
• OR six years of investigative experience for appointment to full-level Internal Investigator 1.
• Associate degree may substitute for two years of experience; bachelor’s degree for four years.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-adjudication investigations and interview witnesses, victims, and suspects.
• Gather statements, documents, and related evidence for court use.
• Write narrative reports communicating investigation results to appropriate parties.
• Coordinate appearance of witnesses at adjudication proceedings and explain procedures.
• Testify in adjudication proceedings concerning evidence gathered in investigations.
• Liaise with investigators and law enforcement agencies.
• Serve civil process documents and make recommendations on case disposition.
• Operate investigative equipment and respond to incident scenes to collect evidence.
