Langley Federal Credit Union is currently hiring for a Full Time Internal Auditor to work a hybrid schedule from our Newport News, City Center office.

Job Summary:

Performs risk-based internal audits that evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of Langley's governance, risk management, and internal control processes. Executes assigned audit procedures from planning and control walkthrough through testing, to evidence documentation, and drafting of findings, in conformance with the Global Internal Audit Standards and Langley's audit methodology. Supports the coordination of external audits and regulatory examinations and performs validation testing to confirm that management has remediated open issues.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
  • Executes assigned segments of risk-based internal audits, including gathering planning information, documenting process flows and controls, performing walkthroughs, designing and executing test procedures, and evaluating results against control objectives.
  • Prepares audit workpapers that meet Langley's documentation standards, so that an independent reviewer can retrace the work performed, the evidence obtained, and the basis for the conclusion without further explanation.
  • Identifies control deficiencies, evaluates the risk and potential exposure each represents, and drafts findings that separate design failure from operating failure and state the condition, cause, effect, and recommendation.
  • Discusses preliminary observations with process owners to validate facts and obtain management's explanation before findings are escalated.
  • Performs validation testing on management action plans and recommends closure only when evidence supports that the control is operating.
  • Applies applicable regulatory guidance to audit scope and testing, including NCUA regulations, FFIEC examination handbooks, Nacha operating rules, and consumer compliance regulations relevant to the area under audit.
  • Applies data analysis techniques to audit testing, using full population analysis in place of sampling where the data supports it, and documents the completeness and accuracy of data used as audit evidence.
  • Maintains engagement records in the audit management platform, including time budgets, procedure status, evidence, and issue tracking.
  • Coordinates the collection of documents requested by internal audit, external auditors, and regulatory examiners, tracking requests against deadlines and escalating delays, suspected fraud, significant control failures, or unusual activity to Internal Audit leadership.
  • Maintains the audit calendar and supports the annual and interim risk assessment process.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in accounting, finance, business, management information systems, or a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant audit experience.
  • At least one year of internal audit, external audit, regulatory examination, or financial institution risk and control experience is required. Experience within a financial institution is preferred.
