Job summary

Forbright Bank in Chevy Chase, MD, seeks an Intern, Internal Audit who will report to the VP of Internal Audit and collaborate with leadership across the organization. The role focuses on control testing and reviews in business operations, regulatory compliance, and ICFR.

This internship runs 8 weeks, starting June 2027, with guidance from Internal Audit management. The Intern will assist in audits aligned with the Internal Audit Plan, using strong analytical and AI/data analytics skills, and

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Experience with AI and/or data analytics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support departmental objectives in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
  • Participate in walkthroughs of key processes to understand risks and controls.
  • Assess design and operating effectiveness of internal controls and document findings.
  • Assist in executing audits per procedures and professional standards.
  • Support development and evaluation of AI-enabled auditing tools.
  • Maintain proactive communication with bank management and external auditors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY:

TheIntern, InternalAudit,reports to theVP of Internal Audit and worksclosely with audit leadership and other key stakeholders across the organization.This roleassistsin performing control testing and conducting reviews across various areas of the Bank, with a focus on business operations, regulatory compliance, and internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR).The Intern receivesguidance and oversight from Internal Audit managementandparticipatesinaudits aligned with the annual Internal Audit Plan.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with the Internal Audit team to support departmentalobjectivesin a dynamic, team-oriented environment
  • Participate in walkthroughs of key processes to gain a comprehensive understanding of risksimpactingprocesses and controls,financialstatementsand related disclosures
  • Conduct assessments of the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, and document findings in clear, logical, and well-supported workpapers
  • Assistin executing audits in alignment with departmental procedures and professional internal audit standards, including conducting interviews, analyzing procedures and controls, preparing workpapers, and contributing to audit recommendations
  • Support the development and evaluation of AI-enabled tools and agents to improve audit planning, control testing, documentation, reporting, and risk identification activities
  • Maintain proactive and professional communication with Bank management, external auditors, and the co-sourced internal audit team

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Currently pursuing aBachelor’sDegree inAccountingor a relatedfieldrequired
  • Highly motivated and professional, with the ability to thrive in a collaborative, small-team environment
  • Can work4x/week (Monday – Thursday) starting June22,2027untilAugust 12, 2027(8 weeks)
  • Strong analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative
  • Experience withartificial intelligence (AI)and/or data analytics
  • Strong capacity to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Interest in or prior experience with banking or financial institutions is strongly preferred
  • Ability to build rapport andmaintainprofessional relationships with business stakeholders
  • Proficiencywith Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Outstanding problem-solving and time management skills
  • Self-motivated, self-directed, and results-oriented
  • Adaptable and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Can work independently and within a team; solution-oriented with a collaborative approach

$20 - $30 an hour

The pay range for this position is above. The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and prior experience $20/hr (entry level qualifications) to $30/hr (highly experienced).
