Job description

ARE YOU A CURRENT US FOODS EMPLOYEE? PLEASE APPLY DIRECTLY THROUGH OUR INTERNAL WORKDAY CAREER SITE

Join Our Community of Food People! The US Foods Summer Internship Program provides a forum for students to apply classroom skills and academic training in a real-world business environment. In addition to being assigned business-impacting projects throughout the summer, students will be matched with a manager who will meet with them on a regular basis to provide direction on assignments as well as deliver performance feedback and a mentor who will be available to offer day-to-day guidance and support. Interns will also get exposure to US Foods executive leadership; have an opportunity to participate in learning and social events with other interns across business functions and have an opportunity to deliver an end of summer presentation to showcase their accomplishments with key business leaders.

US Foods internships are full-time paid positions (40 hours per week from June - August) with the possibility of transitioning to a full-time position post-graduation dependent on availability and overall performance. This position has been segmented as Hybrid meaning the work is a combination of onsite and remote.

Please note: We are unable to provide internships to students that require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., OPT, F-1, H-1B or any other visa status) now or in the future. [For Rosemont based internships only] Local candidates are encouraged to apply. For qualified students whose permanent home of record is located outside 50 miles from US Foods Corporate HQ, a sign-on bonus will be offered to partially offset housing costs for the summer.

BASIC PURPOSE

At US Foods, technology powers every part of our business, from customer ordering and supply chain operations to data, analytics, and digital experiences. As a Technology Strategy & Architecture Intern, you'll gain hands‑on experience working with teams that help shape the future of technology across the enterprise. This internship offers a unique opportunity to learn how large organizations make technology decisions, evaluate emerging solutions, and design scalable systems that support business growth. You'll collaborate with architects, engineers, product teams, and technology leaders to understand how technology strategy translates into real‑world business outcomes. Throughout the program, you'll contribute to meaningful projects while building skills in enterprise architecture, technology strategy, digital transformation, and solution design. You'll gain exposure to a wide range of technologies, platforms, and business functions while developing a deeper understanding of how innovation, modernization, security, data, and cloud technologies come together to create business value.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Enterprise Architecture team in documenting current‑state and future‑state architecture views, including business capabilities, applications, integrations, data flows, technology platforms, and key dependencies.

  • Assist with research, analysis, and documentation of emerging technologies, industry trends, architecture practices, and vendor capabilities that may support DigiTech and US Foods business priorities.

  • Help maintain enterprise architecture repositories, standards, reference materials, roadmaps, and decision records to improve transparency, reusability, and consistency across DigiTech.

  • Participate in architecture review activities by preparing meeting materials, capturing notes, tracking follow‑ups, and helping summarize architecture recommendations, risks, dependencies, and decisions.

  • Partner with architects, product teams, business stakeholders, security, data, infrastructure, and application teams to gather information and support architecture assessments, technology evaluations, and modernization planning.

  • Assist with application portfolio analysis by collecting and organizing information related to application ownership, business value, technical fit, lifecycle status, redundancy, risk, cost, and modernization opportunities.

  • Support the development and refinement of architecture standards, guardrails, templates, and reusable guidance to help teams design secure, scalable, resilient, and cost‑effective solutions.

  • Contribute to dashboards, reports, and executive‑ready summaries that communicate architecture insights, project impacts, technology risks, and progress against architecture initiatives.

  • Help identify opportunities to simplify the technology landscape, reduce duplication, improve reuse, and align solutions with enterprise architecture principles and DigiTech strategic objectives.
