You will work on AI/ML applications, big data, fraud and credit risk technologies alongside experienced engineers and researchers to tackle real-world challenges. Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or related field and have completed at least sophomore year.
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, Go, automated testing, and system monitoring.
• Data-driven mindset with data analysis, manipulation and visualization experience.
• Interest in robust design solutions for small to medium-scale problems or components.
• Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms and AI/ML best practices.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; self-driven learner.
• Passion for innovation and cloud technologies including big data, AI/ML, risk analysis, and cloud infra.

About The Team/Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented graduate student in Computer Science or a related field to join our Data, AI, and Risk Technology (DART) team as a Summer Intern. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting‑edge AI/ML applications, big data, fraud and credit risk technologies in the FinTech industry, working alongside experienced engineers and researchers to solve real-world challenges. You will gain valuable experience in developing and deploying AI/ML models, working with big data and risk technologies, and contributing to a dynamic and innovative team.

How You’ll Make An Impact

• Contribute to impactful projects: Work on challenging projects that leverage data to address critical business needs in areas like fraud prevention, credit risk assessment, and data‑driven decision making.
• Data Transformation: Design and implement moderately complex ingestion pipelines that integrate with internal and external systems—unlocking value for both customers and internal teams.
• Contribute to both batch and streaming ingestion flows, ensuring scalability and maintainability.
• Work with big data technologies: Gain experience with big data tools and technologies, including data ingestion, processing, and analysis.
• Collaborate with experts: Partner with experienced engineers and researchers to brainstorm solutions, overcome technical challenges, and contribute to innovative projects.
• Present your work: Share your research findings and project outcomes with the team and stakeholders.

Experience You’ll Bring

• Educational Foundation: Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or related field and will have completed at least your Sophomore year of school at the start of the internship.
• Strong Programming Skills: Proficient in coding using languages like Python, Java, Go, etc., automated testing, and system monitoring or other relevant programming languages.
• Data‑driven mindset: Experience working with data, including data analysis, manipulation, and visualization.
• Solution‑Oriented: Desire to learn robust design solutions for small to medium-scale problems or system components.
• AI/ML Expertise: Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms, techniques, and best practices.

Compensation and Benefits

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX’s total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non‑sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
