Job summary

MANN+HUMMEL is seeking a part-time HSE intern to support multi-plant operations in the USA, based in Dunlap, TN with occasional training events in Michigan and other locations. The role focuses on health, safety and environmental compliance, EMS coordination, and training support.

The intern will assist with EPA/OSHA related records, data maintenance for waste and emissions, and the EMS manual upkeep while gaining hands-on experience in a regulated manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Environmental Health.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Quality and Environmental Systems in HSE roles.
  • Strong digital tool usage including Excel and PowerBI.

Responsibilities

  • Support HSE program development and compliance across US facilities with minimal travel.
  • Assist EMS/ISO14001 activities and emergency response planning.
  • Coordinate training related to health, safety and environment at the site.
  • Maintain environmental records and assist with disposal methods and waste data.
  • Support EMS manual maintenance and achievement of environmental objectives.

Job description

Main Tasks
  • Responsible for multi-plant setting in the USA. Minimal travel required. Main involvement in Dunlap, TN operations. There may be opportunities to attend training events within the state of Michigan and other locations.
  • Support activities to identify, plan, develop and implement a health, safety and environmental program ensuring compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Assist functions in HSE problem identification and solution implementation.
  • Assist with preparation, training and implementation of disaster planning.
  • Assist the Environmental Management Representative to coordinate EMS to comply with 1ISO14001 standards and maintain 3rd party registration. Coordinates emergency response plans.
  • Assist with plant safety activities including coordination of the Emergency Response Plan.
  • Comprehend and assist with environmental legal requirements and other safety and environmental requirements to which the plants subscribe and applicable to the plants.
  • Supports the Environmental Management System by:
    • Understanding reports required by the government
    • Assisting with maintenance of summary data and information on liquid and solid waste, air emissions, and other key environmental performance measurable results.
    • Understand the appropriate disposal methods for all waste at the plant.
    • Assist with maintaining environmental records as required.
  • Assist the EMS Manual maintenance process.
  • Support the Achievement of environment objectives and targets with the EMS.
  • Coordinate, monitor and facilitate training related to health, safety, and environment areas consistent with the facility mission, direction, goals; customer requirements and regulatory compliance.
  • Understand accurate and timely OSHA and EMS record requirements.
  • Identify and correct potential health, safety and environmental issues.
  • Participate with various safety committee(s).
  • Enhance HSE Communications.
  • Performs activities in a positive and professional manner.
Your Profile

Education:

  • Working toward Bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Business or related field or working toward a Bachelor's degree in this related field.
  • Any additional knowledge of and adhere to the current Quality and Environmental Systems requirements that relate to the HSE role

Requirements:

  • Able to intern from 20-29 hours a week (flexible scheduling allowed)
  • Able to use digital tools (i.e. Microsoft Office with emphasis in Excel, PowerBI, etc)
  • Able present in front of leadership staff.
