Job summary

Gray AES in Atlanta, GA invites a Packaging Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to join our packaging team on fully integrated projects spanning FEL/FEED through commissioning.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a BS in mechanical, industrial or packaging systems engineering, with strong communication, MS Office (Excel), 2D CAD and technical writing skills; visa sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing BS in mechanical, industrial or packaging systems engineering with emphasis on packaging systems preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to support coordination across project disciplines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; advanced Excel skills a plus.
  • Technical writing experience or skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Reinforce the project team as part of the packaging team on FEL/FEED, Detailed Design, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning Support.
  • Support technical lead on packaging systems design including line speed analysis, pack out matrix, block flow and general arrangement drawings.
  • Provide input to packaging system budget and schedule documentation through collaboration with the technical lead and PM teams.
  • Generate equipment performance requirements and participate in FATs, reviews, and trials under guidance.
  • Assist in estimating tasks and developing scope of work or small proposals with senior input.
  • Prepare technical documentation including process flow diagrams and equipment lists.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Pursing Bachelor of Science Degree in mechanical, industrial or packaging systems engineering. An emphasis on packaging systems is preferred.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, are required to support proactive coordination across all project disciplines. Examples of this include the development of engineering deliverables documentation and effective presentation of project materials to large and diverse project teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Office. Advanced excel skills are a plus.
  • 2D CAD experience is a plus.
  • Technical writing experience and or skills (e.g., technical specifications, scope of work documents) are required.
  • Ability to learn about and evaluate existing processing & packaging operations and suggest and drive solutions that provide ROI and improve productivity.
Qualifications

What we expect… (Essential Functions)

  • Reinforce the overall project team by serving as a part of the packaging team on complex, fully integrated projects of various sizes. Phases include FEL/FEED, Detailed Design, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning Support.
  • Support the technical lead on all aspects of packaging systems design and integration development including line and equipment speed analysis, pack out matrix, block flow and general arrangement layout drawings, equipment lists, utility demand matrices, procurement specifications/approvals. Willingness and passion to learn under guidance of senior members.
  • Provide input to the development of intricate packaging system budget and schedule documentation through deep collaboration with the technical lead and project management teams.
  • Under guidance and direction of senior engineers and project leads, generate requirements for equipment performance and participate in vendor factory acceptance tests (FATs), reviews, and trials.
  • Provides input on multiple tasks for estimating and supports the development of the scope of work. Can also generate an entire estimate for specific assigned tasks and can also generate a small proposal under the guidance of senior members.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical documentation, including process flow diagrams, equipment lists, and project reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.
