Commonwealth Fusion Systems LLC in Milpitas, CA, is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to contribute to design, prototyping, and validation of critical mechanical hardware. You’ll perform CAD modeling, drafting, and hands-on testing in our shop and lab, while organizing files and supporting fabrication tasks.

The internship runs 13–18 weeks, 40–50 hours per week, onsite, with transportation and housing responsibility on-site. Open to students from BS to PhD programs.

Qualificações

• Pursuing an engineering degree with focus in Mechanical, Aerospace or Mechatronics.
• 3D CAD modeling and engineering calculations required.
• FEA is a plus.
• Hands-on assembly and basic machining experience.
• 3D printing and prototyping experience helpful.
• Active student team involvement (Formula SAE, robotics, machine shop).
• Strong organizational skills.

Join the power movement as a Mechanical Engineering Intern

We are looking for a talented Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team! CFS interns are highly valued within the organization and placed into meaningful and challenging roles.

Program Details:

• 13-18 week internship
• 40-50 hours per week with set hourly salary based on year in school
• Opportunities on site in Milpitas, CA. If an intern is going to be on site, you will be responsible for your own transportation and housing
• Specific project assignments and required technical skillset will vary based on the team’s existing need.
• Opportunities available for currently enrolled college students in all levels of schooling from bachelor’s degree to PhD
• Interns must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer

What you'll do:

• Mechanical Design & Engineering Analysis: Perform design CAD modeling, detail drafting, and fundamental engineering calculations to validate mechanical hardware
• Hands-on fabrication, prototyping, hardware assembly, and physical testing/validation in the shop or lab
• CAD & Digital File Organization: Organize CAD models, maintain standard component libraries, and clean up workspace file structures to ensure data is easy to navigate and reuse
• Lab & Shop Housekeeping: Assist in setting up shop toolboxes, organizing incoming parts/inventory, and implementing physical organizational systems to maintain an efficient engineering workspace

What we’re looking for:

• Pursuing an engineering degree with focus in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics
• 3D CAD modeling, engineering calculations
• FEA (nice to have)
• Hands-on assembly
• Basic machining
• 3D printing
• Student team and activities (Formula SAE, robotics, machine shop expreience)
• Strong organizational skills

Must-have Requirements:

• Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
• Perform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
• Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics

$25 - $38 an hour
