Job summary

The Metra Internship Program offers practical, on-the-job learning for college students to gain experience in Human Resources and related business support roles.

Intern will assist in Talent Acquisition, EEO, Compensation, Medical and Organizational Development, and may help create marketing materials, update websites, and support the transition to the talent management system. A variety of duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Sophomore, junior, or senior undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in an accredited program.
  • Preferred areas of study: Human Resources, Organizational Development, Statistics, Management, Data Analytics or related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience with Microsoft Office Suite and graphic design programs strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in Talent Acquisition, EEO, Compensation, Medical and Organizational Development functions.
  • Create and update marketing materials and content on various websites.
  • Assist in the department’s transition into the talent management system (applicant tracking module).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service.

Salary Range

$21.00 - $24.00

The Metra Internship Program provides opportunities for college sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate students to gain practical experience through on-the-job learning. Metra assigns students to projects pertaining to their academic/educational fields of study, which complements classroom instruction. The knowledge they gain contributes to career development, while the experience provides insight into a wide variety of jobs in the railroad industry.

The Intern will assist in supporting general Human Resources-related functions in Talent Acquisition and Business Support, EEO, Compensation, Medical and Organizational Development. May be assigned special projects researching, analyzing and writing. Additionally, the intern may create and update marketing materials, and content on various websites, assist in the department’s transition into the talent management system as part of the applicant tracking module, and perform additional duties as assigned.

Metra is a railroad employer subject to the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Tax Act, not the Social Security Administration.

Requirements

The Intern must be currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior, or senior in an undergraduate program, or in a graduate program, from an accredited institution. Preferred, but not required, areas of study are Human Resources, Organizational Development, Statistics, Management, Data Analytics, or related field. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, experience with Microsoft Office Suite and graphic design programs strongly preferred.

Must be 18 years or older; able to legally work in the United States; a student in good standing for each semester/quarter during their internship; and available to work between 12 and 20 hours per week for up to one year (optional: 40 hours per week during summer months).

Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Metra is unable to sponsor visas (e.g., H-1B or TN status) at this time.
