Job summary

Ovintiv’s Geology and Geoscience interns will work with industry experts, applying cutting-edge geological, geophysical, data science, and engineering techniques on premier oil and gas assets. You’ll join multidisciplinary teams and contribute to meaningful projects that develop core geoscience skills and jump-start your career.

Open to Geoscience graduate students who will remain full-time through December 2027, with availability May–August 2027. US work authorization is required.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Geoscience graduate degree program.
  • Available May 2027–August 2027 for internship.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate new reservoirs, plays, basins, and new technologies.
  • Characterize reservoirs by mapping geometry and properties; build models.
  • Oversee geological operations of drilling wells and communicate progress.

Geology and Geoscience interns have an exciting opportunity to work side by side with industry experts utilizing cutting-edge geological, geophysical, data science, and engineering technologies on best-in-class oil and gas assets. Our geologists are part of multidisciplinary teams, providing tremendous opportunities to learn the full scope of oil and gas resource plays. Teams include engineers, geophysicists, petrophysicists, data scientists, land negotiators, regulatory professionals, operations professionals, and others with the diverse expertise needed to achieve our strategic objectives. To ensure interns are given relevant, value-added, and meaningful work, we do not create specific assignments until late-spring. However, our intern projects are designed to provide value to both the interns and the teams. These projects are impactful and will stretch your abilities, give you the opportunity to learn and gain new skills, and help you launch your career in geoscience.

Responsibilities
  • Exploration: evaluate new reservoirs, plays, basins, and new technologies.
  • Reservoir Characterization: Evaluate known reservoirs, fields, and plays; map reservoir geometry and properties; build reservoir models; determine critical parameters that influence productivity and economics; evaluate hydrocarbon volumes; and extend the limits of known fields or plays.
  • Development Operations: Build well plans; specify data acquisition requirements; oversee the geological operations of drilling wells; geosteer horizontal wells; communicate well progress to stakeholders; and participate in completion design.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled in a Geoscience graduate degree program.
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student through December 2027.
  • Available May 2027 – August 2027.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • In accordance with applicable law, the following represents Ovintiv's reasonable estimate of the hiring compensation range for this role. Hiring Hourly Range: $37.50 - $53.94 USD Compensation may vary and will be determined by year in school.
