Job summary

Micron Technology is seeking an SSD Firmware Intern to join our SSD Engineering team in Colorado. You will collaborate with firmware engineers to develop and test firmware for Micron's SSD products, gaining hands-on experience in embedded systems, debugging, and AI-assisted workflows.

You will work on features, debugging, test plan development, and documentation, contributing to high-performance, reliable storage solutions for client and data center applications.

Qualifications

  • 0–2 years of relevant experience through internships, research, coursework, or projects.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree and returning to school after the internship.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming acquired through coursework or projects.
  • Basic understanding of embedded systems, firmware development, and debugging concepts.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities; detail oriented.
  • Experience with AI-enabled tools (Copilot, Claude) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to develop, test, and enhance SSD firmware features.
  • Debug and resolve firmware issues to improve product performance and quality.
  • Develop and implement test plans to validate firmware functionality and qualification activities.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to code quality improvements.
  • Document firmware features, updates, and technical information for stakeholders.

As an SSD Firmware Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers to develop, test, and improve firmware for Micron's SSD products. This role provides hands-on experience in embedded systems, firmware development, debugging, and AI-assisted engineering workflows while contributing to the performance, quality, and reliability of next-generation storage solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to develop, test, and enhance SSD firmware features and functionality.

  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvements in code quality and development processes.
  • Document firmware features, updates, and technical information for internal and external stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience through internships, research, coursework, academic projects, or software/firmware development activities.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field and returning to school following the internship.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming acquired through coursework, projects, internships, or research experience.
  • Basic understanding of embedded systems, firmware development, and software debugging concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience using AI-enabled tools and large language models (LLMs), such as Copilot, Claude, or similar technologies, to support coursework, projects, or daily work activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous internship, research, or project experience in firmware, embedded software, or systems engineering.
  • Familiarity with SSD technology, storage systems, or computer hardware architectures.
  • Experience using development tools such as Git, JIRA, or similar version control and project management platforms.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python for automation, testing, or data analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet project deadlines, and deliver high-quality technical solutions.

The US base salary range that Micron Technology estimates it could pay for this full-time position is: $36.55 - $36.55 an hour Additional compensation may include benefits, bonuses and equity. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target base pay for new hire salaries of the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, tenure and relevant education or training.
