Job summary

Komatsu America Corp. invites engineering students to join the Longview Operations facility in Longview, Texas as an engineering intern for Summer 2027. You will contribute to loader testing, data analysis, and design support under seasoned mentors in a hands-on industrial setting.

Full-time summer commitment with onsite work, mentorship, and opportunities to learn 3D measurement, LINCS software, and pivot-table data visualization while contributing to real project outcomes.

Qualifications

Hands-on experience in technical or mechanical roles.
Current enrollment in an accredited engineering degree program (sophomore/junior).
Proficiency in Solid Edge or SolidWorks for design tasks.
Strong Excel and Word skills for data and documentation.
Background in mechanical/electrical/industrial engineering or related fields.
Physical ability for outdoor work in up to 110°F weather.
Flexibility to switch between office and shop activities.

Responsibilities

Support loader testing and ensure safety and performance standards.
Data collection and drafting of reports and procedures.
Operate and maintain test tracks and machinery.
Participate in strain gauging tests and analyze results.
Assist with project documentation and evaluation boards.
Learn LINCS data analysis with formal training.
Use 3D measurement with FARO/Laser Tracker for precise dims.

Key Job Responsibilities

As an intern in our engineering department, you will play a vital role supporting various stages of product testing, development, and analysis. Your responsibilities will include:

Collaborating on loader testing activities such as controlled environment and sound tests, ensuring adherence to performance and safety standards.
Conducting meticulous data collection and assisting in drafting detailed reports and procedural documents to support continuous improvement efforts.
Operating and maintaining test tracks and machinery, gaining firsthand experience with equipment functionality and operational challenges.
Participating in strain gauging tests to measure stress impacts and contribute analytical insights usable in design refinement.
Supporting documentation requirements related to project requests and evaluation boards, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Learning and applying LINCS software for data analysis, supported by comprehensive training to develop proficiency.
Mastering advanced measurement techniques using 3D equipment such as the FARO arm and Laser Tracker, enabling precise dimensional assessments critical for quality control.
Assisting engineers in investigating Manufacturing Root Cause Studies (MRS) to identify and resolve equipment issues effectively.
Contributing to technical projects through spreadsheet modeling, including creation and manipulation of pivot tables for data visualization.
Preparing 3D drawings and visual content to support technical reports and presentations, enhancing clarity and communication.

Qualifications/Requirements

Ideal candidates for this internship program possess a combination of practical experience and academic preparation in engineering or related technology fields. Key qualifications include:

Demonstrated hands-on experience in technical or mechanical roles such as mechanic work, electrical repairs, automotive service, agriculture, or other practical disciplines that exhibit problem-solving and manual skills.
Current enrollment in an accredited engineering or engineering technology degree program, ideally at sophomore or junior level, although freshmen with relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
Proficiency in 3D modeling software platforms, particularly Solid Edge or SolidWorks, which are integral to product design and analysis tasks.
Strong competence with Microsoft Office suite applications, especially Excel and Word, to manage data and documentation efficiently.
Preferred backgrounds include mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, mathematics, or graphic arts, complemented by familiarity with illustration tools such as CorelDraw or Adobe Illustrator.
Physical readiness to perform outdoor tasks, including manual labor such as equipment maintenance and testing, sometimes in challenging weather conditions up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
Flexibility and adaptability to transition between office-based analytical work and hands-on activities at workshops or test tracks within the same workday.
