Job summary

HNTB Corp in New York, NY is seeking Intern Engineers for Summer 2027 to contribute to Rail & Transit projects. This internship provides hands-on experience on some of the region’s largest infrastructure programs, with mentorship from experienced engineers.

You'll assist engineering teams with tasks, research, and design support, help prepare drawings and documents, and gain exposure to post-secondary engineering workflows. Relocation or housing are not provided.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required and enrolled in an accredited post-secondary engineering program.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with basic engineering calculations.
• Familiarity with shop drawing/submittal procedures is a plus.
• AutoCAD and/or MicroStation experience preferred.
• Interest in transportation and infrastructure.

Our New York City office is seeking Intern Engineers looking to help deliver some of the region’s biggest and most complex public transportation projects within Rail & Transit for Summer 2027.

This opportunity entails being responsible for assisting the New York Office Rail & Transit department on assigned project(s) by performing basic engineering related tasks which may reflect elements of standard post-secondary engineering curriculum.

Relocation and housing are NOT provided for these positions.

What You’ll Do:

• Assists engineer teams in various tasks and duties.
• Assists Engineer with research, development and design of projects.

What You’ll Need:

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program

• Understands engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles at a basic level.
• Shows proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Accepts and applies direction from peers and supervisors.

What We Prefer:

• Completion of 2 years of post-secondary engineering program including: Civil, Mechanical or Electrical
• AutoCAD and/or MicroStation experience
• Strong interest in transportation and infrastructure

The approximate pay range for New York is $26.34 – $39.50. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position based on all selected locations within the state at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
