Job summary

The American Heart Association invites applications for a fundraising internship in the Oregon & SW Washington team. You will support fundraising campaigns, logistics, and donor communications while gaining hands-on nonprofit experience in a dynamic environment.

Ideal candidates are seniors or graduate students in business, communications, or nonprofit management, with strong writing and outreach skills. Expect 20–25 hrs per week, on-site in Portland, OR, at $23 per hour, through late spring.

Qualifications

• Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in business, communications, event planning, or non‑profit management are preferred.
• Must be comfortable with vendor outreach (phone calls & emails to vendors & donors).
• Experience/interest in promotion, sales, or fundraising.
• Experience with event planning for a non‑profit or for‑profit organization.
• Demonstrated skills in effective one‑on‑one and group communications and comfort with working professionally with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
• Proficient in multiple social media platforms.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
• Intermediate to excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office and Canva.

Responsibilities

• Responsibilities include assisting with the development and implementation of fundraising activities, logistics, and administrative support for the Oregon & SW Washington market.
• Work with the Development and Operations teams to support fundraising campaigns.
• Assistance with pre-campaign planning, day of event execution, and post-campaign wrap‑up projects.
• Execute external calls and emails to donors, volunteers, and 3rd party vendors.
• Work within event support systems to help manage data entry and run reports.
• Develop and update marketing materials for campaigns including save the dates, invitations, social media posts, volunteer rosters, and other needed collateral to assist in campaign promotion.
• Assist with volunteer management including prepping for and attending externally facing meetings (both in-person and virtual.)
• Conduct prospect research to generate new leads and compile information for fundraising campaigns.

We have an exciting opportunity for an intern on our Oregon & SW Washington Team. As an intern supporting our fundraising campaigns, you will play a key role in driving engagement and participation, ensuring a positive experience for supporters. Your responsibilities will include a variety of tasks that contribute to the fundraising, planning, execution, logistics, and follow‑up of life‑saving initiatives.

Internship Overview:

• Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week

• Location: Must be located in the Portland, OR area
• Salary: $23.00 per hour

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
