Summary

As a FedEx Intern, you will be working on projects gaining you valuable, real-world experience in a professional environment as it relates to your field of study.

Essential Functions

• Present and deliver long-term solutions that will have significant impacts to the business and/or customer experience.
• Participates in various networking and/or community service events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Role Details

• Design, develop, and prototype AI-powered solutions, including LLM-based assistants, document and data summarization tools, and automated customer support applications.
• Integrate AI models and capabilities into existing applications, enterprise systems, and data pipelines to enhance functionality and operational efficiency.
• Analyze data using SQL, Python, and other analytical tools to identify opportunities for process optimization, workflow automation, and AI-driven improvements.
• Document solution architectures, technical designs, data flows, and implementation guidelines, including appropriate safeguards, governance controls, and operational guardrails.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience developing and integrating LLM-based APIs and implementing AI-powered features within applications.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, Power BI, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and JavaScript.
• Familiarity with production-grade AI application practices, including rate limiting, asynchronous processing, background job management, error handling, and performance monitoring to ensure reliability, scalability, and maintainability.

Minimum Education

Currently enrolled student or recent college graduate (within 6 months of graduation) at a college/university obtaining a 3.0 GPA or higher. Degree: Computer Science, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or related quantitative discipline.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to work productively and proactively, both independently and as a part of a team.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
• Demonstrates interpersonal communication skills.
• Time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills necessary to work in a fast-paced environment, handling various tasks and changing priorities, while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy to achieve daily assignments and goals.
• Verbal and written communication skills are necessary to communicate with business units and to all levels of management.

Domicile

This is a hybrid position located in Memphis, TN. Candidates must live within 50 miles of the campus location. Employees will be required to work at the FedEx campus location several times per week.

Availability to work 40 hours/week for a 10 week program, June 7th - August 13th.

Pay Transparency:

Salary is $25/hour for undergraduates and $30/hour for graduates. A $2,000 stipend is available for those relocating over 50 miles for an on site or hybrid internship or co‑op experience.
