Qualifications

  • On-site availability of at least 20 hours per week (40 hours per week also available).
  • Sophomore or higher status as of fall 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers, Engineers, and field teams with tasks.
  • Prepare project files, reports, and client communications as needed.
  • Support development of baselines, benchmarks, and scheduling reporting.
  • Assist in preparation of mechanical and controls projects and rollout support.
  • Contribute to data collection, engineering modeling, and performance analyses.
  • Compile project documentation such as certificates and training forms.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

What you will do

Johnson Controls invites you to apply for an internship with our federal team supporting the Fort Myer military base in Arlington, VA (military friendly, but active military not required). This internship is designed to provide you with a positive work/training experience and challenging objectives. You will be supporting initiatives across a number of functions related to project management and construction project coordination. This role will support contributions to our team supporting building mechanical systems and the related building automation and control systems (BAS). Specific identified internship responsibilities are outlined below.

Hours and timeframes are flexible based on class schedules, but overall duration will likely be between 3-5 months. On-site team primarily works between the hours of 7:00am - 3:30pm, Monday-Friday.

What you will do:
  • Supports the Project Managers, Engineers, and field teams with a variety of tasks.
  • Assists in preparing project files and reports, customer presentations, and other customer communication documents as needed.
  • Assists in development of customer baselines, benchmarks, and project scheduling reporting as needed.
  • Support team in the preparation of mechanical and controls projects, development, and assist in rollout and support of new business opportunities.
  • Contributes to asset/mechanic systems data collection, process or financial task calculations, and other operational performance engineering modeling during both design and execution management phases
  • Compiles project documentation, such as certificate of completion, customer training forms, training certificates and punch lists
  • Other duties as assigned
What we look for
Required:
  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. college or university
  • Pursuing a degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a similar field
  • Technical proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other Microsoft products
  • Currently a Sophomore or higher status as of fall 2026
  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • This position services U.S. Government contracts and requires handling of export controlled and other sensitive government data which requires full U.S. citizenship
  • Must be able to work on-site at least 20 hours per week; full-time (40 hours per week is available)
Preferred:
  • Interest in supporting a career in the construction, energy efficiency, sustainability, and/or HVAC industry
  • Prior military experience
