Job summary

Family Service Association of Greater Elgin Area in Illinois seeks interns in social services. You must be enrolled in a bachelor’s program in Social Work, Psychology, or related field and meet RSA criteria.

The internship includes a stipend, supervision, and educational opportunities. You will document hours, follow NASW/ACA ethics, and collaborate with clients and community resources.

Qualifications

• Must meet RSA criteria: 21+, HS diploma or GED, demonstrated skills with clients.
• Ability to work within the Provider's structure and accept supervision.
• Commitment to professional conduct and HIPAA/ethics.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to FSA policies and NASW/ACA ethics.
• Complete onboarding requirements in a timely manner.
• Establish a written learning agreement with Field Instructor and set learning objectives.
• Participate in internship evaluations or school meetings.
• Maintain field hours and complete agency paperwork.
• Promote collaboration with clients and community resources.

• Must meet criteria to qualify as a Rehabilitative Services Associate (RSA) by being at least 21 years of age, be a high school graduate or have a GED certificate, have demonstrated skills in the field of services to adults or children, have demonstrated the ability to work within the Provider's structure and accept supervision, and have demonstrated the ability to work constructively with Clients, treatment resources and the community per Medicaid rule 132 standards.


• Effective positive interpersonal communication skills.


• Willingness to approach tasks and experiences with a positive attitude, and receive feedback from Field Supervisor.

Internship Responsibilities

• Adhere to FSA policies, rules, and standards of practices as well as all applicable ethical codes. NASW and ACA Code of Ethics.


• Complete all necessary employee onboarding requirements in a timely manner.


• Establish a written learning agreement with Field Instructor. Identify specific learning objectives and create a consistent schedule as well as evaluation arrangements.


• Participate in completing any required internship evaluations or meetings with school.


• Adhere to field placement schedule and notify Field Instructor of any changes prior to changes being implemented. Notify Field Instructor of unavoidable absences or inability to come in at scheduled times.


• Complete assigned tasks by Field Supervisor that may include direct client interactions, documentation, and/or completion of an assigned project.


• Responsible for working with collaterals on behalf of active clients, including: referral and linkage, discharge planning with in-patient psychiatric facilities, and the advocacy of a client’s rights within the education, legal, state and mental health systems.


• Use good judgement in all work to ensure client safety. Seek out necessary resources and practices effective self-care to enhance performance in all internship duties.


• Maintain all client’s confidentiality and rights under the HIPAA law.

Workday/Hours

FSA offer flexible scheduling for interns, and can be determined during the interview process. Typically interns work around 12-15 hours each week.

Supervision

• Weekly/Bi-Weekly individual supervision with a social worker with two or more years of experience.


• Once a month group supervision with interns with a social worker with two or more years of experience.


• Responsible for reporting to supervisor regularly about problem cases or situation, need for special services and resource information.


• Responsible for discussing learning progress and experiences.

Administrative

• Maintain a record of field hours and assigned duties in collaboration with the Field Instructor.


• Responsible for completion of and meeting deadlines for all paperwork for cases, including: CIS Billing Notes, Case Closing, and other paperwork necessary or appropriate for maintaining case files.


• Responsible for completion of and meeting deadlines for all agency administrative paperwork, including: CIS Billing Notes, expense sheets and any other administrative or agency requested reports.


• Responsible for attending staff meetings, clinical meetings and program meetings as assigned by Supervisor.

Training

• Complete all necessary training requirements based on program assigned.


• Maintain a log of trainings completed.

Other Duties/Special Assignments/Projects

• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor to the best of intern’s ability.


• Perform incidental business-related travel as needed.


• Responsible for participating in the Internship Innovation Fair.


• Responsible for promoting collegiality at the workplace by working collaboratively with others.


• Responsible for any equipment assigned to be kept free from damage or loss. Any damage or loss of equipment needs to immediately reported to Supervisor.
