Job summary

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. invites students pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, or related major to apply for a 2027 Summer Construction Safety Internship.

The 10+ week program runs 40 hours per week and provides real-world safety experience, including toolbox talks, site safety procedures, and collaboration with project teams. Southern California locations pay $28 per hour, with possible subsistence and benefits.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, or related field.
• Interest in pursuing a career in Construction Safety.
• General knowledge of safety and construction principles.
• Willingness to relocate and/or commute for the internship duration.
• Reliable transportation to the assigned jobsite.

Responsibilities

• Support and monitor safety efforts of subcontractors and McCarthy employees, conducting project safety Toolbox meetings weekly and enforcing safety guidelines with the disciplinary policy.
• Ensure Site-Specific Safety Manual procedures are implemented on the project site.
• Assist with issuing new hire safety documents and onboard new employees and subcontractors into the McCarthy safety culture.
• Coordinate with project supervision to ensure PPE/safety materials and first aid supplies are available and safety documents are posted.
• Participate in investigating accidents and injuries, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective measures; support safety/health inspections and reporting.

McCarthy Building Companies offers one of the best paid Construction Safety Internship experiences in the nation. Safety interns will have the opportunity to engage in real-world, hands‑on experience. McCarthy is seeking Construction Safety Interns for this Summer program. This is a 10+ week commitment during the summer, working 40-hours per week.

Specific intern duties and responsibilities are dependent on education and skill level, as well as status of the project, and may include the following:

Position Responsibilities:

• Support and monitor safety efforts of subcontractors and McCarthy employees, conducting project safety "Toolbox meetings weekly and enforcing safety guidelines utilizing disciplinary policy
• Ensure that the procedures outlined in the Site-Specific Safety Manual are implemented on the project site
• Help with issuance of new hire safety documents and lead the immersion of new employees and subcontractors into the McCarthy safety culture.
• Coordinate with project supervision to ensure personal protective equipment/safety materials and first aid supplies are available and utilized, and all safety documents are posted.
• Participate in investigating accidents and injuries, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective measures. Support the conduction of safety/health inspections, coordinating responses and compliance reports.

Position Qualifications:

• Students with Sophomore or Junior standing currently working towards a Bachelor's degreeor Masters degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, or related major.
• Must have valid interest in pursuing a career in Construction Safety
• General knowledge of safety and construction principles/processes
• Willingness to relocate and/or commute for the internship duration required
• Must have reliable transportation to get to and from the assigned jobsite
