Job summary

Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science is seeking an Intern to support the full spectrum of funeral service operations. You'll assist with care of the deceased, family consultations, and coordination of ceremonies.

This internship offers hands-on experience in removals, embalming support, obituary preparation, and regulatory compliance, along with exposure to prep rooms and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Care of the Deceased: Performing removals and transfers from the place of death, embalming, cosmetology, hairstyling, dressing, and casketing.
• Family Services: Assisting with arrangement conferences, gathering vital statistics, typing/preparing obituaries, and supporting client families.
• Ceremony & Operations: Being present at and helping direct funeral transactions—from initial call details to interment and follow-up services.
• Facility Maintenance: Assisting with cleaning, maintaining prep rooms, handling paperwork, and ensuring compliance with state and federal health/safety regulations.
