The University of Louisville's Hite Institute of Art + Design is seeking dependable figure models for live nude and clothed drawing and painting classes at Belknap Campus. Intermittent Temp Position Description: Founded in 1946, the Hite Institute of Art + Design is a vibrant institution offering multidisciplinary majors in fine arts, graphic design, and interior design. As the most comprehensive Art + Design program in the state of Kentucky, we offer majors the opportunity to earn a BA, BFA, MA or MFA in a variety of disciplines. Areas of study include art history, ceramics, critical & curatorial studies, drawing, glass, graphic design, interior design, new media, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.

The Hite Institute of Art and Design is seeking dependable, professional figure models for live nude and clothed figure-drawing and painting classes. Models play an important role in helping students develop their understanding of human anatomy, proportion, gesture, and the expressive possibilities of the human form.

Position Details

• Possibility of 18 + class sessions
• Approximately 3 hours per session
• Classes typically meet Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30 AM-12:30 AM, + 1:00 PM-3:55 PM
• Breaks provided at least every 40 minutes
• Specific session dates will be confirmed by the Department Coordinator
• Models will be briefed on the planned poses before each class and asked to confirm their comfort with them
• Pay is $24/hour, with paid parking

Applicants should

• Be reliable and able to hold a variety of poses for requested periods of time, from short gesture poses to longer poses for detailed studies
• Conduct themselves professionally and maintain discretion
• Be comfortable modeling the nude human figure
• Have an interest or background in the arts, although prior artistic experience is not required

Our department is committed to creating a professional and respectful experience for every model.

Faculty and students do not touch models. Any desired adjustment to a pose will be communicated verbally.

Anatomical terminology will be used when discussing the model's body.

Models may tape their own position before breaks, or give permission for an instructor to assist.

Instructors review poses with models before class and verbally confirm that the model is comfortable with them.

Students and faculty are required to keep phones and cameras put away and out of sight while the model is in session.

Classrooms using nude models are restricted to enrolled students and professors; visitors must have permission to enter.

The department strives to employ models representing a diverse range of body types, sizes, ages, genders, and expressions.

Curriculum addresses the anatomy of both the male and female nude.
