Job summary

Tennant Company is seeking an Intermediate Welder in Minneapolis, MN to setup and operate welding processes while meeting quality and productivity targets. You will work on metal components for Tennant products, using MIG, TIG and resistance welding, with grinding and finishing tasks as needed.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, plus either a technical welding degree with experience or 5+ years welding experience without a degree.

Qualifications

  • Interprets production orders, drawings and layouts to determine fixtures and procedures.
  • Wields MIG, TIG and resistance welding per specifications.
  • Reads prints and fixtures to ensure fit, finish and process compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist entry-level welders with interpreting orders, layouts and drawings.
  • Perform MIG, TIG and resistance welding.
  • Grind, remove spatter and perform related duties as assigned.
  • Layout, fit and fabricate metal components to assemble frames and parts.
  • Handle changeovers, troubleshooting and adjustments to complete tasks.
  • Maintain efficiency within 3 months and uphold safety standards.
  • Operate and measure welds to meet tolerances and minimize defects.
  • Support continuous improvement and act as a change agent on the shop floor.

The Intermediate Welder is responsible for setting up and operating welding processes while achieving and maintaining established quality and productivity standards. You’ll have an opportunity to use your welding skills to produce high quality parts that go into our Tennant products. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist Entry Level Welders in interpreting production orders, method layouts and Engineering Drawings(blue prints) to determine the use of fixtures and proper work procedures.
  • Perform gas shielded metallic arc welding (MIG), gas shielded tungsten arc welding (TIG) and resistance welding
  • Perform additional operations such as; grinding, spatter removal and any other duties as assigned
  • Layout, fit and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms, such as machine frames and parts, using knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy and engineering requirements.
  • Process may be non-descript or variable, requiring changeovers/setup, troubleshooting, and adjustment to complete assigned tasks
  • Achieve and maintain efficiency standards within 3 months.
  • Adept at performing 3 or more processes proficiently within department standards (productivity – quality – safety)
  • Utlilize equipment and measures weld length, pitch and size to drive part accuracy within print tolerances and minimize Quality Notifications and Scrap.
  • Focus on continuous improvement. Acts as agent of change on the shop floor by influencing peers.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent

Technical degree and 2 or more years of welding experience OR 5 or more years ofwelding experience without degree

  • Must pass written and Hands on Tennant Welding Assessment Test
  • Two years general sheet metal training or two years vocational training in sheet metal or related field preferred.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
REQUIRED PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Rountinely lifts up to 40 lbs
  • Requires standing most of the time, continuous bending, stooping squatting, and lifting
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close Vision, Distance Vision, Peripheral Vision, Depth Perception, ability to Adjust Focus.
ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES:
  • Hearing and vision protection required in all areas
  • Safety shoes required in all areas
  • Exposure to oil, grease, dust, dirt, heat, fumes, metal particles, sparks, sharp-edged materials, and noise
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Exposed to hazards/risks that require body protection (gloves, pants, steel toes, sleeves, safety glasses, etc.).

Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. Tennant Sales and Service Co. reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualifications of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity. The salary range reflects both entry into the role and future growth. Total Compensation = Base Salary + Benefits
