Job description

Remote, Coast to Coast

Peloton Technologies is a fully remote company— there's no office to relocate for, no expectation of "a few days a week." Our team is spread across Canada, and we've built our tools, meetings, and culture around that. Wherever in Canada you call home, that's where you'll work.

About Peloton Technologies

At Peloton Technologies, we're transforming the payments landscape for small businesses and enterprises alike. Our platform helps business owners manage payments, optimize cash flow, and streamline operations — from seamless point-of-sale transactions to enterprise payment solutions. By building smarter, more connected payments infrastructure, we make it easier for businesses to thrive.

Founded in 2010 on Vancouver Island, Peloton has grown into a national brand with a team working remotely across Canada. Our culture is grounded in five core values — Teamwork, Respect, Trust, Innovation, and Passion — that shape how we collaborate and make decisions.

Role Overview

We are seeking an Intermediate Software Developer to join our team. Reporting to the Director, Software Development, this role blends feature ownership and technical leadership.

You will own the design, development, and delivery of medium-to-large features that meet client requirements. You'll independently solve moderately complex challenges from start to finish, maintaining quality through rigorous testing and monitoring while collaborating with Product, QA, and Operations teams. It also involves deepening your expertise across multiple technical areas, influencing architectural decisions, mentoring junior colleagues, and driving continuous improvement in a dynamic organization.

This position is ideal for a motivated developer with experience building web applications and APIs, ideally in fintech or payments, who enjoys owning problems end-to-end. You bring strong problem-solving skills, are comfortable explaining technical solutions to non-technical audiences, and have an eye for designing clean, user-friendly interfaces.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Contributions and Expertise
  • Write clean and efficient code and practice the software development lifecycle.
  • Independently evaluate end-user requirements, propose viable solutions and trade-offs.
  • Own the design and implementation of moderate-complexity features, from requirements through deployment.
  • Apply and suggest design and architectural patterns, refactoring code for maintainability.
  • Write comprehensive unit tests and automate checks where possible.
  • Proactively identify and address technical debt and production issues.
  • Document design and development processes as required.
  • Deepen expertise in multiple technical areas; contribute to architecture discussions.
  • Continuously improve skills and keep yourself and the team up to date on new tools and practices.
  • Participate in security reviews to check for common vulnerabilities and correct any vulnerabilities identified.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of data, authenticity of users, and availability of the application.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to write, debug, refactor, and test code.
  • Apply critical judgement to verify the correctness, security, and maintainability of AI-generated output.
  • Maintain an experimental mindset toward AI-assisted development tools, evaluating their fit for the team's workflow rather than committing to any single one.
  • Share learnings on AI-assisted workflows with the team to raise the bar collectively.
Ownership and Collaboration
  • Take ownership of end-to-end development, testing, and maintenance of their code.
  • Participate in the code review process as both author and reviewer for learning, improving code quality, and ensuring correctness.
  • Collaborate across development, QA, and occasionally partner teams to surface risks and blockers.
  • Maintain and enhance documentation and developer knowledge base for internal processes and public-facing services.
  • Track work progress, report status, and help the team meet sprint or delivery goals.
Mentorship and Team Building
  • Provide informal guidance and code-review mentorship to more junior developers.
  • Act as an individual mentor for co-op students or interns.
  • Support the Human Resources team with Development team recruitment by reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and providing hiring feedback as needed.
  • Provide constructive feedback and participate in initiatives aimed at maintaining a respectful, inclusive team culture.

Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the scope of the role.

Qualifications and Experience
  • 2+ years of experience as an application developer
  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or computer science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with web development, including web applications and RESTful APIs
  • Experience with working with SQL databases
  • Experience working in fintech or payments is considered an asset
Knowledge

You don't need experience with every item listed below; familiarity with similar or equivalent technologies is welcome.

  • A strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, best practices, object-oriented design principles
  • .NET Core
  • C# or other C-like programming languages
  • Using an MVC architectural pattern
  • Using Ajax to create dynamic webpages
  • Using HTML to develop webpages
  • Using data visualization libraries like Telerik to create charts and graphs
  • SQL database development
  • Developing and deploying applications in a cloud environment (e.g. Azure, AWS)
  • Data model first design approach
  • Unit testing and test-driven development
  • Working knowledge of concurrency and multi-threaded applications
  • Software security fundamentals and common security vulnerabilities (OWASP Top 10)
  • Payment processing including credit card and electronic funds transfers
  • Experience integrating REST APIs
  • Source control via Git and Azure DevOps
