Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Intermediate Professional, Geophysics to support field and office-based investigations, applying earth science, physics, and mathematics to assist in collecting, processing, and interpreting subsurface data.

You will work with multidisciplinary teams, help ensure data quality, learn geophysical software tools, and contribute to reports, figures, and project documentation under senior guidance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics, Geoscience, or closely related discipline or equivalent experience.
• 1–3 years of geophysics experience and knowledge of seismic, EM, GPR, or magnetometry.
• Ability to work safely outdoors and travel for field campaigns.
• Strong written and verbal communication and data recording abilities.
• Willingness to learn geophysical software and document findings.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, deploy, and maintain geophysical equipment for fieldwork.

This Opportunity

The Intermediate Professional, Geophysics supports geophysical investigations by applying foundational knowledge of earth science, physics, and mathematics to assist in the collection, processing, and interpretation of subsurface data. As stated in the document, this role “contributes to the execution of field and office-based tasks that inform engineering, environmental, and resource development projects.” Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, the technician helps ensure data quality and consistency while gaining hands-on experience with geophysical survey techniques, industry standards, and client requirements. Responsibilities also include supporting project documentation, data analysis, and adherence to safety and regulatory protocols.

Your Impact

• Prepare, deploy, and maintain geophysical equipment and instrumentation.
• Participate in field data collection using seismic, resistivity, magnetics, and ground penetrating radar methods.
• Support the processing and preliminary interpretation of geophysical datasets under senior staff guidance.
• Assist in developing figures, reports, and documentation of geophysical findings.
• Review background data, maps, and project documentation to support field planning.
• Follow prescribed safety procedures and help maintain a safe work environment during field operations.
• Maintain organized records of field activities, calibration logs, and data files.
• Collaborate with team members to analyze and interpret basic geophysical data in geological and environmental contexts.
• Learn and apply standard geophysical software tools for data processing and visualization.
• Support integration of geophysical data with geological, environmental, or geotechnical information.
• Participate in internal meetings, trainings, and technical reviews.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics, Geoscience, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience in geophysics or related fields.
• Understanding of geophysical principles and techniques (seismic, EM, GPR, magnetometry).
• Familiarity with geological mapping, subsurface investigations, and environmental data collection.
• Ability to work safely in varied outdoor environments and weather conditions.
• Interest in fieldwork and willingness to travel for extended field campaigns.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to follow technical instructions and work effectively in team settings.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn geophysical software.
• Ability to accurately record, organize, and manage field data.
• Attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
• Effective time management skills.
• Ability to lift, carry, and set up field equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
• Internship or coursework focused on geophysics or environmental geoscience.
• Experience with data logging or GPS based survey systems.
• Familiarity with ArcGIS or other mapping software.
• Previous fieldwork or laboratory experience.
• Basic knowledge of regulatory or permitting considerations in environmental or engineering projects.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $60,900 - $76,100

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
