AtkinsRéalis is seeking an Intermediate Process Engineer, Energy to join our growing team in a remote role based out of Oak Ridge, TN. You will support design, analysis, and optimization of process systems for nuclear and commercial energy projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary engineers to deliver safe, efficient solutions for our clients.

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in nuclear industry preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, develop, and improve industrial processes.
  • Support design and analysis of mechanical components and system designs for nuclear and commercial projects.
  • Collaborate with productions teams, quality control, and other engineers to ensure processes run efficiently and meet safety and regulatory standards.
  • Apply engineering principles to design chemical engineering systems including reaction vessels, filtration systems, ion-exchange skids, piping and vessel systems.
  • Select commercially available equipment (pumps, valves, pipe fittings, in-line components, filtration systems).
  • Perform engineering calculations (mass and energy balances, pressure profiles, pipe, pump and vessel sizing).
  • Run experiments and tests to aid in design documents and plant modifications.
  • Familiar with national codes and standards for mechanical and systems engineering.
  • Ensure design media comply with criteria, specifications, procedures and codes and licensing basis.
  • Work in multi-discipline teams; mentor junior colleagues as needed.
  • Check design media for accuracy per company and client expectations.
  • Meet schedules and initiate corrective actions for delays.
  • Suggest equipment/concepts to improve performance or reduce costs or adapt to client changes.
  • Receive guidance from senior engineers and perform assigned duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Overview

We are seeking an Intermediate Process Engineer, Energy to join our growing team. In this remote role, based out of our Oak Ridge, TN office, you will support the design, analysis, and optimization of process systems for nuclear and commercial energy projects. Working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will contribute to innovative solutions that enhance safety, efficiency, and operational performance while helping deliver complex projects for our clients.

Your role
  • Responsible for analyzing, developing, and improving industrial processes.
  • Supports the design and analysis of mechanical components and system designs for nuclear and commercial projects.
  • Collaborates with productions teams, quality control, and other engineers to ensure processes run efficiently and meet safety and regulatory standards.
  • Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as chemical engineering systems including reaction vessels, filtration systems, ion-exchange skids, piping and vessel systems.
  • Conversant in the selection of commercially available equipment, which may include pumps, valves, pipe fittings, in-line components and filtration systems.
  • Performs a variety of engineering calculations using traditional engineering methods to document compliance with project and code requirements, which may include mass and energy balances, pressure profiles, pipe, pump and vessel sizing.
  • May run experiments and tests to assist in the preparation of design documents and plant modifications.
  • Familiar with national codes and standards appropriate to the mechanical and systems engineering disciplines.
  • Ensures relevant design criteria, specifications, practices, procedures and codes and site design and safety and licensing basis are used in preparation of design media.
  • Works in multi-discipline teams on project-based work and ensures integration of design across multiple disciplines. Will conduct mentoring and quality reviews of the work of junior colleagues when needed.
  • Performs checking to ensure accuracy of design media in accordance with company policies and procedures and client expectations.
  • Works to assigned schedules ensuring the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of work and initiates corrective measures to overcome delays.
  • Recommends new equipment, concepts and techniques to improve performance, simplify design, reduce costs, correct design flaws or to comply with changes in client requirements, codes or regulations.
  • Receives instruction, guidance and direction from more senior engineers and completes duties as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
About you
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial or related Engineering field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in nuclear industry preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks.
  • Ability to complete complex technical work with limited supervision.
  • Higher-level knowledge and application of skills of fundamental principles and concepts related to process and systems design.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen in order to be considered.

Additional information

Expected compensation range is between $72,000-$138,700 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
