Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an Intermediate Process Engineer, Energy for a remote role based out of Oak Ridge, TN. You will support the design, analysis, and optimization of process systems for nuclear and commercial energy projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to enhance safety and efficiency.

The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering, 3+ years of relevant experience, and CAD proficiency (SolidWorks). Applicants should be U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial or related Engineering field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in nuclear industry preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks.
  • Ability to complete complex technical work with limited supervision.
  • Higher-level knowledge and application of skills of fundamental principles and concepts related to process and systems design.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen in order to be considered.

  • Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as chemical engineering systems including reaction vessels, filtration systems, ion-exchange skids, piping and vessel systems.
  • Performs engineering calculations such as mass and energy balances, pressure profiles, pipe, pump and vessel sizing.
  • May run experiments and tests to assist in the preparation of design documents and plant modifications.
  • Familiar with national codes and standards appropriate to the mechanical and systems engineering disciplines.
  • Ensures design media use appropriate criteria, specs, procedures and codes and licensing bases.
  • Works in multi-discipline teams on project-based work and mentors junior colleagues when needed.
  • Performs checking to ensure accuracy of design media.
  • Works to assigned schedules and initiates corrective measures to overcome delays.
  • Recommends new equipment and techniques to improve performance and reduce costs.
  • Receives instruction from more senior engineers and completes duties as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Overview

We are seeking an Intermediate Process Engineer, Energy to join our growing team. In this remote role, based out of our Oak Ridge, TN office, you will support the design, analysis, and optimization of process systems for nuclear and commercial energy projects. Working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will contribute to innovative solutions that enhance safety, efficiency, and operational performance while helping deliver complex projects for our clients.

Your role
  • Responsible for analyzing, developing, and improving industrial processes.

  • Supports the design and analysis of mechanical components and system designs for nuclear and commercial projects.

  • Collaborates with productions teams, quality control, and other engineers to ensure processes run efficiently and meet safety and regulatory standards.

  • Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as chemical engineering systems including reaction vessels, filtration systems, ion-exchange skids, piping and vessel systems.

  • Conversant in the selection of commercially available equipment, which may include pumps, valves, pipe fittings, in-line components and filtration systems.

  • Performs a variety of engineering calculations using traditional engineering methods to document compliance with project and code requirements, which may include mass and energy balances, pressure profiles, pipe, pump and vessel sizing.

  • May run experiments and tests to assist in the preparation of design documents and plant modifications.

  • Familiar with national codes and standards appropriate to the mechanical and systems engineering disciplines.

  • Ensures relevant design criteria, specifications, practices, procedures and codes and site design and safety and licensing basis are used in preparation of design media.

  • Works in multi-discipline teams on project-based work and ensures integration of design across multiple disciplines. Will conduct mentoring and quality reviews of the work of junior colleagues when needed.

  • Performs checking to ensure accuracy of design media in accordance with company policies and procedures and client expectations.

  • Works to assigned schedules ensuring the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of work and initiates corrective measures to overcome delays.

  • Recommends new equipment, concepts and techniques to improve performance, simplify design, reduce costs, correct design flaws or to comply with changes in client requirements, codes or regulations.

  • Receives instruction, guidance and direction from more senior engineers and completes duties as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

About you
  • Bachelor's degree required in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial or related Engineering field.

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.

Additional information

Expected compensation range is between $72,000-$138,700 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
