At W.F. Baird (Baird), we design and deliver innovative, results-driven solutions for ports, marine terminals, shoreline protection, hydraulic structures, coastal ecosystem restoration, and more. With 40+ years of experience and offices across North America, the Caribbean, South America, and Australia, we offer a collaborative, entrepreneurial work environment with opportunities for growth and ownership.

Due to growth, Baird has an opportunity for an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our team and contribute to coastal, marine, and hydraulic infrastructure projects. In this role, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team on site investigations, design work, and construction support for high-impact projects.

If you have a solid technical foundation and are ready to advance your career through project ownership, expertise development, and leadership growth — we encourage you to apply and help shape the future of marine and coastal engineering.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Support the planning, design, and construction of marine and coastal infrastructure projects (e.g., ports, shoreline protection, breakwaters, hydraulic structures).
  • Conduct and assist in managing geotechnical and geophysical site investigations, including data review, interpretation, and reporting.
  • Prepare engineering analyses, calculations, and design documents under senior staff guidance.
  • Contribute to technical reports, memos, and design packages.
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and modelers across offices and time zones.
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews, risk assessments, and design development meetings.
  • Engage in construction observation and provide technical support during project execution.
  • Develop expertise in tools such as LPILE, APILE, gINT, PLAXIS, GeoStudio, and similar platforms.
  • Participate in internal knowledge sharing and training sessions.
What You Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably with marine or coastal infrastructure exposure.
  • E.I.T. designation required; P.E. or P.Eng. registration preferred.
  • Knowledge of soil mechanics, slope stability, seepage, foundations, and ground improvement techniques.
  • Experience with geotechnical software (e.g., LPILE, APILE, Slide, PLAXIS, gINT, GeoStudio) is an asset.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Collaborative mindset and team-oriented attitude.
  • Willingness to travel for site work and client needs (domestic/international).
Why Join Baird?
  • Challenging projects with real-world impact.
  • A culture that values innovation, collaboration, and mentorship.
  • Opportunity to work with international teams and gain exposure to coastal and hydraulic environments.
  • We offer competitive compensation and benefits as an employee-owned company.

Baird is committed to an inclusive work environment and is proud to be an EOE/M/F/D/V. We encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply, even if they do not meet all requirements.

We appreciate your interest. Baird is a diverse, inclusive workplace welcoming all perspectives and experiences.
